Emerging Dance Brand Jenire Would Like Your Support To Help Get Ominous To The Wellington Stage For The 2024 Fringe Festival

Ominous aims to create a thought provoking performance of dance that awakens new clarity and connections between nature and human nature. We aim to push the contemporary dance boundaries by creating unique and innovative movements that also add an element of the commercial/hip hop style as well as Butoh. A high level of strength, stamina and musicality will be showcased within the performance as well as movements that are integral to the intention of the piece and creating a story on stage. With the mix of powerful music, abstract choreography and advanced lighting, Ominous aims to create a passionate performance that encourages connection between the performers and the audience.

Ominous Synopsis: As the ominous dark clouds draw nearer, one’s tension builds. The positive and negative charges within increase to the point where a rapid discharge of electricity disperses producing a sharp bolt of light known as lightning. Did this occur within the cloud or within the human body?

Ominous looks into the cause of lightning, relating the events to the human system. Positive and negative chargers build up so high to the point the energy needs to be released. Have you, yourself, as a human experienced a similar occurrence?

Ominous explores this concept with the audience. Watch the dancers work with the lighting to create this event on stage through these six sections,

Escalate - As the temperature drops and breeze turns to a gust, witness the storm begin to consume the surrounding atmosphere

Turbulence - As this storm draws nearer the protons and electrons within the clouds collide and repel, creating havoc, leaving the clouds imbalanced

Electric Current - The negative charges covering the lowest layers of the clouds initiate the stepped leader which attracts the positive charges up from the ground.

Return Stroke - Once these charges meet a bright flash of light known as lightning creates the return stroke. With lightning comes thunder and with thunder comes the storm.

Mortal Outburst - Seeing the sudden outburst of light that was caused by imbalance, reveals the connection between nature and human nature. Humans when overtaken by the negatives will also have the need to release the inner-turmoil.

Tranquil Release - Once released the sky will clear, the mind will clear, the storm will calm. Was something so ominous actually influencing a profound effect?

We hope to share an innovative piece of art that connects movement, emotion, lighting and sound together to enhance a concept that we hope to portray on stage and share with the audience. We are connecting a force of our surrounding nature/environment and connecting it to human nature. This is to look at our human actions and inner processes in a new light by connecting it to something we understand/can view. Seeing it and connecting it will help audience members understand themselves better and give a reason to their why. Ominous aims to be a thought provoking performance that sends you through all emotions. A fast paced, high intensity performance that creates an emotional and raw outburst before it allows you to calm and reflect.
