Project 2023-07-24 16:24:11 +1200
Pav Deconstructed is a luscious, hard-cover, coffee-table-style book about pavlova. While it does contain a recipe from the wonderful Christall Lowe, it is not a recipe book!
The idea for the book started ten years ago at a dinner table when a group of writers discovered they all had a pavlova tale to tell. Over the past two years, Pavlova Press has been on a quest for the real pavlova, the one seen on Kiwi tables, and not just through the photos in a cookbook.
Pav Deconstructed brings together experiences and imaginings through poetry, story, and art from everyday Kiwis (and some international imposters) in a collection that shows pavlova is not just a dessert, it is community.
At Pavlova Press we love this idea of community and believe every Kiwi will see a little bit of themselves inside. We have gathered work from over 150 contributors, many of whom have not been published before, and presented it in an anthology unlike any seen before. Part of our ethos is providing a platform for new voices and we believe Pav Deconstructed does just that.
Our vision for this book is to offer something that is uniquely Kiwi and that resonates with our passion for holding on to what is rightfully ours – Phar Lap, Crowded House, the Bledisloe Cup … and pavlova.
Christmas is just around the corner and we want to make sure as many people as possible have this tasty slice of Aotearoa New Zealand under their Christmas tree.
* Don’t know what to get your mum for Christmas?
* Struggling to buy that perfect gift for Nana Hazel or Uncle Jim?
* Tired of having to think about presents for your sister, Lois, who has everything – including your mum’s pavlova recipe?
* Want something to remember those times making pavlova with Dad?
* Need that hard-to-find gift to say sorry to Madge?
Whatever gift-giving scenario you find yourself in, Pav Deconstructed will solve it.
As well as Pav Deconstructed, we have other offerings suitable as Christmas gifts:
* Standing to-do list notepad – perfect for the well-organised, or not-so-well organised, person who appreciates all things stationery
* Scoria: Short prose from the Cinder Cone – a stimulating collection of prose from Pavlova Press’s team of two
* Ngā Ripo Wai | Swirling Waters – a multi-contributor anthology of prose and poetry celebrating the connection and history of Kerikeri, New Zealand.
If you can, please pledge or share; it means a lot to us!
Note: This PledgeMe campaign is not set up for international shipping. If you have a NZ address for shipping, please continue. If not, then there will be other opportunities to purchase later.
Our Publishing House
At Pavlova Press, our goal is to make a positive difference in people’s lives by producing unique and beautiful books and stationery. We were inspired to create our independent publishing house primarily to develop a book of pavlova tales. We started off with two smaller anthologies, Scoria and Ngā Ripo Wai, before embarking on Pav Deconstructed.
Our team is small, consisting of sisters, Kathy Derrick and Jac Jenkins, and we use freelancers for consultation, design and editing. For Pav Deconstructed we called on the services of Claire Gordon as art director; engaged Madison Hamill, Adrienne Charlton and Imogen Coxhead for editing and proofreading; Justine Derrick deftly pulled together our ideas to create the cover artwork; and the book design (cover and internals) was skilfully executed by Emilia Toia.

Pav Deconstructed - the perfect gift
01/11/2023 at 10:52 AM
We are getting close to the deadline for our PledgeMe campaign. Thank you again to all pledgers - if you know anyone who loves to buy gifts for others this is the perfect gift for just about anyone so be sure to send them the link to our PledgeMe page. And if you've thought of anyone else you could gift a copy to, then feel free to make a second pledge. The first video below gives a very quick flick-through of the book and the second one gives some ideas on how Pav Deconstructed is a great gift for anyone. Thank you again, everyone, for your support.
Pav Deconstructed PledgeMe Deadline Extended
26/10/2023 at 4:21 PM
NEWSFLASH: Kathy has spoken to the PledgeMe team and we have agreed to extend the Pav Deconstructed PledgeMe deadline – yay! It now closes at 5 pm Friday 3 November 2023. We have extended the deadline for two main reasons:
· * We are unsure if everyone truly appreciates that this is an all-or-nothing campaign. This means that if we don’t meet our target no money is taken from pledgers and they won’t get their selected rewards. We are so grateful for the support everyone has given us so far and would hate for them (you J) to miss out on our gorgeous products.
· * AND we felt the end of the week was a much better day to end a campaign rather than mid-week.
Please, like or follow us on Facebook and share our posts far and wide. We only need around 80 more pledgers to meet our target – more than doable!
