Help Us Launch Friendly's First Skincare Product - Upcycled, Organic Body Scrubs
Project 2023-05-07 19:49:53 +1200
Friendly is focused on ethical, functional products that work for everyone.
Our vision is to create a range of no-bullshit skincare products, made in small batches, from local, organic and upcycled produce, with sustainability and generosity front and centre.
We prioritise local collaboration, high quality organic ingredients, and bringing joy to everyone we interact with. We won’t make any claims about our products working magic, but we do know they’ll leave your skin looking, feeling and smelling great.
We're looking to launch our first products in June, with your help.
Body Scrubs
Our body scrubs are handmade in small batches in beautiful Pukerua Bay. They contain upcycled Peoples coffee, sugar, and salt to exfoliate, plus coconut and essential oils to nourish. Our body scrubs will leave your skin smooth and fresh. They’re easy to use and come in four deliciously different scents:
Lush Forest with earthy aromas and Kawakawa leaves, known for their medicinal properties
Spiced Orange with the warm scents of orange blossom, ginger and local Pohutakawa honey
Tropical Flowers a scrub heady with the aroma of our imaginary tropical island holiday, and;
Coffee Vanilla an absolute fan favourite that’s sure to leave you craving a big ol’ hit of caffeine.
Sustainability & Partnerships
At Friendly, our goal is to produce great products that are friendly to both people and planet. We source our ingredients as locally, organically and ethically as possible. Our scrubs contain upcycled Peoples organic coffee grounds from the baristas at Little Green Olive, with organic, fair trade sugar and coconut oil, essential oils produced in Aotearoa, locally made honey and locally harvested kawakawa. Our glass jars are recyclable, protected with ecowrap and posted as sustainably as possible. In the future, we’ll look to improve our packaging options, and explore a container return scheme for our local Friendly-fans. We reckon it’s possible to have great skin and a sustainable future.
We love local and we love Greedy and Co. If our PledgeMe is succesful you will also be able to buy our products, while picking up your morning coffee.
Generosity
We know that business thrives when communities thrive. That’s why we are donating 50% of our profits to a local charity that’s making a difference for our people and places. Our current Friendly community partner is Good Bitches Baking. Good Bitches Baking are on a mission to make Aotearoa the kindest place on earth. Their mahi is all about spreading kindness in community, by providing home baked goods to people who are having a tough time. Their mission aligns with our organisational values of friendliness, kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga.
Our Team
Friendly is the brain child of Lani Evans and Silvia Zuur. We're a couple of good friends and social entrepreneurs based between Porirua and the Kapiti Coast. Right now, we're both taking a break from our regular mahi to care for whanau and explore our passions. Our past projects have included Cheese Cartel, Thankyou Payroll and Chalkle.
We were inspired to create Friendly because we're curious about the skincare space, we love to learn, we want to divert coffee grinds from landfill and we enjoy a good side hustle. We also wanted to create the sort of skincare products that we want to buy - stuff that will care for our skin and the environment.
We decided to launch with this coffee scrub so that we could offer up an environmentally friendly exfoliant as we head into winter!
Our work is supported by the wonderful artist and designer, Rachie Campbell.
Our plans
This PledgeMe campaign is our first exciting Friendly step. $4,000 will cover our set up and start up costs, and help us test the market. We are keen to connect with you, hear from you, and understand how and where Friendly can fit in the Aotearoa skincare market. After a successful crowdfunding campaign we will sell our products directly on our new website and in retail stores. We are also keen to explore more cafe partnerships to divert more used coffee from landfilll. And we do see more Friendly products on our horizon...

Halfway there!
06/06/2023 at 11:49 AM
We've hit 50%! Thanks to all of the wonderful people who have pre-purchased our scrubs. We're loving this process and loving the conversations we're having with you, and with retailers who are signing up to spread the Friendly message far and wide!
Can you help us get our campaign 100% funded? This funding will cover our startup costs and our initial Friendly production run. Share our Pledgeme page with your friends and whānau and we'll add a little extra gift when we send your order.
And stay tuned for an upcoming blog post on skincare, and what science says works when it comes to anti-aging.
