About

Bird Aid: Caring For Our Wild Birds

Project 2022-08-21 18:04:31 +1200

I have been feeding and caring for wild birds and little wild animals for five years in Auckland in the Otahuhu and Mount Wellington suburbs. I started this after discovering that birds were often not able to keep up with the chick's demand to feed their voracious appetites. I decided that these little animals deserve a healthy chance to life.

Should they be forced to make choices, when food is scarce, about whether their young should live or die when we can help them? Please help me reach $1,000.

Show kindness to urban wild life! Make a pledge and make a pukeko healthier.

Currently, I use my own financial resources. I buy bird and animal food in bulk to ensure a continuous supply of food.

Each pledge will make a worthy contribution to helping me feed and care for our wild birds and wild animals in my community. I drop off food after sunset to several locations in parks around my area. I make a feed paste out of grains, kibble and vegetables.

What it costs

The grains, kibble and vegetables cost about $70 a week. The cost of running the car every night adds up too. From time to time I also find sick or injured birds or little animals that require medical aid and fostering. Caring and fostering for the animals can run into $300 to $500 until they are well enough to be released.

What the target is

I am looking to raise $1,000 which will secure funds needed to buy food for 3 months. The more I raise the longer the supply will last.

What the rewards are

For donations less than $30.00, I offer a gift of a recording of my rendition of Silent Night.

For donations of $30.00 or more, I offer a gift of up to four pot plant of dayliles and rosemaries. Delivery is expensive and it depends on the location from Auckland. For local deliveries within Auckland, You get a choice of one plant from three flower colours of daylilies or a rosemary plant if you donate $30 or more. For outside of Auckland and within the North Island, it is for a donation of $40.00 or more and it is $60.00 or more for South Island locations. Every extra $20.00 you donate earns you an extra plant of your choice up to a maximum of four plants. I will also offer you a recording of my rendition of Silent Night.

For a donation of $1000.00 or more, I offer a gift of a 4 to 6 page static website plus a recording of my rendition of Silent Night as well as a gift of four pot plants of daylilies and rosemaries.

I have about 40 rosemary plants and about 20 of each of three colours of daylilies. If I run out, I will offer to deliver these later after I propagate some more. This takes about three to eight weeks.

What about me?

My name is Martin. I earn a modest income. I became interested in wild bird welfare in 2016 after seeing young birds panting in the heat of summer. Eventually, I saw dead featherlerss bird chicks on the ground. I had always supposed this to be the harsh reality of wild life. Young feathered chicks seemed to be ejected from their nests early too which made them vulnerable to curious people, pets, and othrer wildlife. After some online research and from animal welfare organisations, I concluded that birds were not able to find sufficient food to feed the chicks.
