Cutly Limited is a start-up from Manawatu that saw a need for a shaving cream using all-natural ingredients. Cutly natural shaving creams are made to absorb into the skin and hair with nourishing and moisturizing effects.

We, at Cutly believe that you should be kind to your skin, so nasty chemicals are a no-no for cosmetic products. And we should be even kinder to the planet by not adding to the global tally of plastic waste caused by disposable plastic razors.  

What we're crowdfunding for:

The pledged amount will be dedicated towards purchasing higher quantities of organic ingredients allowing us to reduce the cost of goods sold (COGs)

Subsequently, we will be able to continue our ongoing conversations with Sheiling Laboratories at a paying capacity where we can mass produce the Cutly blend.

We will also be dedicating a portion of that amount towards purchasing more quantities of our custom reusable razors and accesories for it like stands, travel packs and blade disposal tins.

With the increased quantities of all our products, we will then participate in trade shows nationwide, in both South and North Island showcasing Cutly Creams and our vision to create a sustainable and natural shaving routine.

 

 

Our story:

We are four individuals working on Cutly Limited as a full-time mission, with an advisor (Aden Fareh) who believed in our project from day one. We have been working without taking any payments from the business for almost 2 years now while we were trying to figure out the perfect blend of the product that works the way we envisioned. 

 

Our Head of production, Blake, was a barber when he came up with the blend as he had many customers with sensitive skin who constantly suffered from ingrown hairs, skin rashes and razor bumps. He soon realized that the chemicals in the products was what caused most of those concerns, so he sought to achieve a Natural blend that could be used as a shave cream.   

Mo Eltayeb and Chris Teneza were Blake’s clients at reform barbershop when they got into the chat about shaving and skin irritation. The natural blend that Blake had been working on came into the conversation and he tried it on both Mo and Chris. They loved it but it was still in an oil form.

Aden was invited into the team to help perfect the blend into a cream from its original oily state. As a Chemical engineer, he assisted Blake to achieve the creamy consistency that we now know. He chose to remain in the team as an advisor and invested funds to get the team started on the Cutly project.

Pradeep, like Mo and Chris, used to get haircuts at Reform barbershop. He constantly suffered from rashes after shaving before he tried the natural blend that Blake had developed. Once the blend was completed and Cutly was close to launch he joined the team full-time as he believed that the product could disrupt the shaving industry.

We officially launched for business on 26th of November 2021 with our first batch of natural creams. Their product range also includes reusable razors that completely eliminate the chances of getting ingrown hairs and are sustainably designed for the environment.

 

 

Our unique blend

For decades we have been programmed into thinking shaving was a complicated chore that needed fancy gears and numerous products, But that far from the truth.

We have formulated a blend of natural ingredients that acts as a moisturizer, shave cream, pre-shave, after shave, hair mask and beard oil.

Our blend is owned by Cutly Limited using a trade secret process. We have secured the legal rights to operate in NZ and AU.

Cutly has been operational predominantly on an eCommerce business model.

 

 

Our aim is to be a retail brand and a household name.

Our goal is to produce a natural product that serves all shaving and skin care needs while lowering plastic wastes.

Our mission is to bust the myth created by big brands that keep adding more blades to their razors without actually addressing the common issues of skin irritation and complicated shaving routines.

 

 

We aspire to replace multiple Chemical based cosmetics with our natural blend and educate customers about the advantages of reusable single blade razors over the disposable multi blade razors. We knew it was time to make the big push and make our dreams to mass produce a reality after we started recieving great customer feedback.

About our team:
Blake Janes (Head of Production)
Working as a barber for over 6 years, Blake has witnessed many problems in the industry. One of which that kept popping up was shaving irritation. He decided to look further into this problem and eventually figured out that the leading causes of this problem were the drying agents found in traditional shave creams. With this newfound perspective, he decided to defy the widely marketed means and develop his own way of solving this by creating a natural blend that would appeal to many.
Blake is the man behind every product we have produced so far. He is a barber by trade and has been working in the team to produce the Cutly blend for the perfect creamy consistency. He is originally from New Zealand and has been living and working in Palmerston North for the better part of the decade. He is an experienced barber who has worked at Reform barbershop in Palmerston North.
 
 

Mo Eltayeb  (Director)

Recently after moving back from Melbourne, Mo went to get a haircut at Reform Barbershop (where Blake was working at the time). Blake ended up using him as a test dummy for one of his first product batches as Mo complained about hating shaving. After realizing that the product completely rids him of bumps & irritation, Mo became an instant advocate of the product and joined the mission to bring Cutly to the world.

Mo takes responsibility for the operations & marketing aspect of the business. He has a background in marketing & management. Originally from Sudan, he studied at Freyberg High School and Massey University (Marketing and Management).  He is an advocate of upskilling and dedicates a lot of his free time towards learning graphic design and operational management which is necessary for Cutly.

 


 

Chris Teneza (Director)

Confused and eager to start working on something new, Chris was very intrigued by the Cutly product (as he too struggled with shaving). After being given a sample by Mo, he found himself asking for more. This allowed him to see the potential Cutly could have, since then he too has made it his full time mission.

Chris takes the helm of Finance and video content, originally from the Philippines his family moved to New Zealand when he was 12. With a background in banking as he worked at ANZ before making Cutly a full-time mission. Having studied at Freyberg High School and then later at Massey University (Business Studies), He is passionate about videography and he has been an integral part of creating every video campaign Cutly has ever released.

 

 

Pradeep Chhetri (Director)

Pradeep was a Harvey Norman employee for six years, two years of which he was managing a sales team in the Palmerston North Store. He used to be a frequent client at Blake’s barbershop. He was extremely interested in the product as it solved a massive concern of his, which was shaving irritation. They talked about Cutly and he was invited to visit the office. After the visit he decided to join the team and leave his Managing position at Harvey Norman.

He is responsible for sales and compliance. He is originally from Bhutan. He studied in the Royal Thimphu College (Business Studies) in Bhutan and his family moved to New Zealand in 2013. He has been working on the Cutly project full-time for almost a year now.

 

 

Aden (Advisor)

Aden is an accomplished Chemical engineer holding a BE (Hons) Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering degree. Currently working in Australia, he is in constant contact with the team helping with the decision making processes. He is also the first investor who believed in the project enough to dedicate his time to an advisory role.

He has been an integral part in achieving the cream texture for the blend with his knowledge in chemical engineering by helping find natural ingredients that could replicate the texture that usually requires addition of synthetic chemicals.

 

 

We have been bootstrapping our operation for the last two years and now that we have a finished product that our initial customers have been ecstatic with, we are confident that mass production and global operation is our next step. We aim to compete with Global giants like Gillette, Schick and Dollar Shave club as an original New Zealand Company that aspires to redefine the shaving industry. Cutly promotes the use of reusable metallic razors. These razors are built to last and have an amazing weight behind them to deliver precise shaves that eliminate ingrown hairs! This also slows down the growing plastic pollution in the world as 400 million tonnes of plastic waste is disposed into the environment each year.  Replaceing the use of disposable plastic razors can cut down a huge fraction of that waste!
