About

Give A Christmas Dinner

Project 2021-10-31 16:48:00 +1300

We don't want Kiwi families to go hungry this Christmas.

Right now, more than 50,000 families in New Zealand are struggling to put food on the table every day. As Christmas approaches, difficult times become even harder for families across New Zealand.

I don't think we need to tell you that Covid-19 has changed our lives. Our "new norm" now consists of uncertainties but also provides possibilities.

Christmas should be a time for friends, whānau and laughter, not having to choose between presents for the children or a Christmas meal.

Hence, we want to ensure that Kiwi families don't go hungry this Christmas.

Who is Kete Kai?

Here at Kete Kai, we deliver meal kits. Based out of the Waikato, we also service parts of Auckland.

This Christmas, we want it to be more than that - we want to deliver hope to Kiwi families in need.

Earlier this year, we kicked off our first 'Kia Kaha Pay it Forward' campaign, and in just a few months, we raised over $140,000 and distributed more than 2100 meals to Kiwi families via our community partners.

Our Goal

Please help us to provide Christmas meals to Kiwi families in need.

We aim to raise initially raise $20,000 to feed 250 New Zealand families.  Ultimately, we'd love to raise $80,000 to feed 1000 New Zealand families this Christmas.

We know we can do it, but we need your help.

Packing food to deliver

Give a Christmas Dinner

Our 'Pay it Forward Christmas Crate' is filled with nutritious and delicious festive food, including meat, vegetables and pudding.

Designed to feed a family of four, the crate costs $80, including a $5 donation/koha to our community partners.

The crates will be distributed to the chosen families by the 23rd of December.

How we choose the families

Kete Kai has developed partnerships with several community partners through our existing community-based strategies, such as our pay it forward meal kits.

These community partners will choose the families on our behalf who will receive the meals.  They know better than anyone the hardships going on in our communities.

Our current community partners are:

1.  Annies Corner - Waikato

2.  Cambridge Community House - Waikato

3.  Cambridge Community Garden - Waikato

4.  Cambridge Pound Hounds - Waikato

5.  Ngahinpouri PTA - Waikato

6.  True Colours Children's Health Trust - Waikato

7.  Single Parent Services - Waikato

8.  Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust - Waikato

9.  Shama - Waikato

10. Barnardos – Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Auckland

11.  Dementia - Waikato

12. Here to Help U - Waikato

13. Pukete Neighbourhood House - Waikato

14. Kootuitui ki Papakura - Auckland

15. Fairfood - Auckland

16. Tauranga Foodbank – Nicki Goodwin, Manager

17. Te Puke Community response team

18. Whanau ora, Huria Trust

19. Taulanga Malie Reformed Christian Church Trust

20. Ngati Ranginui Iwi Kahli Elvin

21. Youth Encounters

22. Whaioranga Trust

How to choose where your pledge goes

If you would like to choose which community partner receives meal kits on your behalf, please complete this short form.

Together (you, Kete Kai and our community partners), we can spread the festive cheer this Christmas.

Please consider a pledge to pay Christmas dinner forward.

If you are a business and buy Christmas gifts for your clients, perhaps you might consider gifting Christmas Crates to a family instead. If you know of an organisation that might be interested in this, please forward this to them.

Help us restore hope this festive season and make Christmas a little bit special for as many Kiwi families that we can.

Give a Christmas…  Because every family deserves one.
