Hi, my name is Kris Baines. On 22 February 2011, I was working as a Paramedic in Christchurch city. I was in a training class when the quake hit, then spent the rest of the day working, mainly at the CTV building. When I saw the photo below in the news I realised it was me because I only had an old jacket with me that day for training, which had no "AMBULANCE" logo on it. It was a day we will never forget...
As a pianist and composer, I wanted to pay a musical tribute to my colleagues, and to the victims and their families, who were so affected by this tragic event. A few years back I wrote the solo piano composition, "From the Rubble" as I reflected on the earthquake. Recently I re-recorded this as a new arrangement, to mark the 10 years since the earthquake. The plan is to shoot a commemoration video on location in Christchurch, in several iconic locations, including the memorial wall where the names of the 185 people who lost their lives are inscribed. I will be joined by Andrew Joyce, the principal cellist from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. This will be released in the week leading up to the 10 year anniversary and hopefully gain wide media interest. I have a passion for musical projects that are meaningful, and this is probably my most meaningful project to date, given the personal connection I have with that unforgettable day. Here's a few screenshots from the video so far...
Please watch the video below to see a previous project I did, in honour of Anzac Day in New Zealand. To find out more about my music, please visit krisbaines.com
This project will also help me in my music career, by allowing me to do more meaningful projects in the future. Please note the rewards for this project as it will also be supporting St John Ambulance, and the Westpac Helicopter. The target cost for this campaign is the absolute bare minimum to get this done with a team of people giving a lot of free time and resources. Anything above the target will help greatly to improve the quality and reach of this project and allow me to cover expenses of those giving their time. Thankyou so much for your support, and for helping me make something meaningful for those affected by the Christchurch earthquakes.
