I'm Michelle, Founder of a global, creative initiative Colour Our Story. Colour Our Story facilitates the creation of colouring-in books and colouring-in greeting cards filled with beautiful and unique drawings and short stories created by children, for children, all across the World.
Each book is typically made up of a collection of drawings and stories from a particular group of children somewhere in the world. We, or our Colour Our Story friends, invite them to think about what they wish to share with other children around the globe.
This could be something about themselves, where they're from, their hopes and dreams or something from their wild imaginations. This untamed, open space is where the magic happens!
We've also recently launched our special online collections which have allowed us to reach out to children everywhere and ask them to submit creative content on a particular topic such as Covid 19 and climate change. Find out more under 'Special Collections' below.

Our impact has been far reaching. We've connected with hundreds of children and gifted hundreds of books to a wide range of organisations and charities who's values are so beautifully aligned with our own.

We've held children's creative events in NZ and overseas and travelled to orphanages and remote areas with limited opportunities. We've colloborated with friends and volunteers who have taken Colour Our Story with them and gathered content from children directly.
We've collaborated with charities and organisations who see the value in incorporating the Colour Our Story experience in their core mission.
Here are just some of those wonderful organisations:
Orphund reaches out to the most vulnerable children by targeting remote and unsupported communities. They bring hope and opportunity to thousands of orphaned, abandoned and neglected children. I have personally experienced and witnessed all the incredible, absolutely life changing work that they do during my own two trips to a remote village Kasese in Uganda. This collaboration resulted in two Uganda Books and a Sierra Leone Book. We hope there will be many more!
Fairnomad are an enterprise aimed at providing education and career opportunities to the inhabitants of remote villages around the world. A beautiful friend and teacher, Jana, spent time teaching young children on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa and introduced the students to Colour Our Story. Their creations, along with others collected during my own travels around Bali, were part of our first Indonesian book. Jana's students in Prague also took part and we now have a wonderful Czech Republic book in the Colour Our Story collection.
As well as nourishing you from the inside out, Charity Tea also helps nourish children in New Zealand and overseas. Revenue from the sales of their health-promoting blends of organic tea feeds kids in need. This collaboration, with the beautiful founder and our friend, Gill, came as a result of one of her trips to Haiti a few years ago and resulted in the special Haiti Book. Despite the enormous challenges in Haiti right now, we have high hopes of one day bringing more creative connection to the children she so lovingly supports.
IGYBP provides emergency care packs filled with practical and essential items to women and children surviving domestic violence in refuges nationwide. Founder of this inspiring vision, Anita, is a dear friend and it’s been such a privilege to be part of her story. Our global colouring-in books have been included lovingly in children's packs for vulnerable children throughout New Zealand. In the future we have big dreams to provide those children with opportunities to become artists and storytellers in their own Colour Our Story books.
This was our most recent collaboration and such a meaningful opportunity! It's a validation of all that we are and all that we do. The Smile Initiative is a social enterprise created to shake things up within mental health in Aotearoa. They have created mental health kits to support adults and children around NZ and they chose to have our global colouring-in books as a therapy tool within their children's kits. We are so excited to see where this journey with them may take us in the future!
In times like these, with so many kids staying safe at home around the world, it's ever more important for children to not feel alone, to connect, to share and to feel heard.
So we launched our global ‘Home Together’ online gallery space earlier this year. We invited children to share a drawing and short story they've created with other kids and families wherever they may be and made them available as a free downloadable collection.
These wonderful stories and drawings will soon be available in schools, preschools, cafes, libraries, holiday events and more. If you would like them in your space please get in touch.

Our next exciting online gallery space that we plan on launching in the new year is 'Save Our World'. We already have over 100 drawings and stories and expect to have a global library of thousands of free downloadable printouts that could help children feel empowered, heard and inspired.
With these creations we also hope to create some powerful partnerships and collaborations with others doing incredible things to help save our world.
We are also commited to doing our part when it comes to reducing our environmental impact which is why we have chosen our printing partner Pinc Inc for our books and cards. Find out more about their environmental efforts here - Pinc and the Environment.

This journey takes a village and the more that village grows, the more impact we can have and the richer our impact becomes. Since Colour Our Story began, wonderful humans from around the world have come on board: volunteers, bookmakers, teachers, parents, artists, creatives, photographers, fellow travellers, carers, partners, supporters and collaborators. Aside from the children, the beautiful connections that have been created between like-minded souls from so many different places, backgrounds and experiences is one of the best parts of this initiative that fills me with so much love and hope for humanity!
We will be sharing some of their stories throughout the campaign so keep a look out.

We're passionate about Colour Our Story and hope to see it in every continent, country, city, and village around the world. To make this happen we need some help. But we don't need a hand-out, just a hand up and simply pre-ordering any of the rewards we have on offer will help us tremendously. Product based rewards are available within New Zealand only. If you are overseas please visit our online store at Colour Our Story. Our card packs will be available there soon.
The funds raised will help in the following ways:
- Bulk buying Book and Card paper stock to create the books and cards
- Reducing printing costs by having bigger print runs
- Sourcing printer relationships in our partner countries to have locally printed books
- Purchasing of art supplies for our creative kits we gift to Colour Our Story children around the world
I'm a creative and a nomad who was born and raised in Zimbabwe. I've lived in NZ for over 20 years and Colour Our Story is my WHY. I just can't imagine my life without it now.
Our goal is to get Colour Our Story to a point of being self-sustaining by generating enough funds to do everything we currently do and much more. With enough funds generated through sales of our books and cards, we'd be able to gift Colour Our Story creative kits (filled with our global book collection, A4 print-outs and art supplies) to many more organisations around the world. Beyond this we would love to connect with more creatives and art therapists, travelling or living locally, who could help us gift even more creative opportunities and therapies where they are most needed. Instead of reaching hundreds of kids, we hope to reach thousands and we believe we can!

Yesterday I spent quite some time at the post shop sending out the first round of your rewards so I hope you'll be finding them in your letterboxes very soon.
We're just waiting for the rest of your payments to go through successfully and then I'll be sending those out immediately so please double check there's nothing you need to do on your end.

I do appologise for this update coming a day late but there has just been so much to celebrate and so much to do!!!
Over the weekend I turned 40 and celebrated in the beautiful sunshine with friends and family here in Auckland, New Zealand. It was a gathering that took me completely by surprise and blew me away.
My fiance Jonathan and I also took the opportunity to make a suprise announcement that he had just received news of being granted residency in New Zealand - which is just the best news!! And of course we were able to celebrate the fact that this campaign surpassed it's goal early!! So with so many incredible things to celebrate, after what has been such a challenging year, I was absolutely feeling the love and such an overwhelming sense of gratitude!
Today I'll be spending some time at the post office sending off some of these rewards to you, our increidble supporters of Colour Our Story. I'll also be posting updates very soon about all the super exciting things we will get to do very soon with all these funds raised.
So I just wanted to quickly send out the hugest mountain of love and gratitude to all you beautiful pledgers and donors of gorgeous gifts!!!
Magical things like this don't just happen. It takes a village and you are now part of our special village, part of our story and part of our global journey.

Our latest mission is getting our Colour Our Story creative kits to our young artists and authors living in OrphFund children's homes in remote Uganda and Sierra Leone. They will be filled with our beautiful colouring in books made by children, for children, all around the world, as well as art supplies.
