About

Cook Strait Kite-Hydrofoil Crossing

Project 2020-10-15 15:14:23 +1300

The Cook Strait is widely regarded as a one of the most treacherous and unpredictable straits in the world. Each year Wellington gets around 173 days of winds gusting over 34 knots! Combine that with rips and tidal currents and we have ourselves a mission!

We will be attempting to be the first to kite across the Cook Strait using hydrofoils!

The shortest point between the North and South Islands is 23km. Our course will take us on a 60km return mission which we plan to complete in under 3 hours!

We are extremely excited to have commissioned Phil Rush from Cook Strait Swim to provide boat support so effectively on standby at present.

We will be updating our Facebook page regularly as we draw nearer to a favourable weather window so please consider supporting us as we prepare to complete this epic adventure. https://www.facebook.com/FoiltheStrait

We have provided a range of rewards that might appeal to you when considering your pledge. These have been generously provided by White Cloud Kiteboarding. Alternatively feel free to make a donation amount of your choosing by selecting "Make a pledge without a reward" tier and enter your new amount.

Please feel free share and definitely get in touch if you'd like to participate in supporting this event in any way.

Thank you so much for your support!

Planning Update

Kia ora koutou!

Thanks to all of our pledgers, we're stoked to have already received so much support!

Justin and I have been getting out as much as we can when the turbulent weather and our busy lives have allowed. Testing gear, fitness, planning and avoiding injuries is the name of the game at the moment.

We've added a new Award for some local kiters who wannt to help us launch land at Oterongo Bay. We have permission for two vehicles and have space to take 5 people.

The pledge amount for the Production Credits has also been reduced so you can get your name mentioned in our film. Our eyes are peeled looking for a suitable forecast from this Saturday!

You can help by please supporting us and spread the word!
