About

"Save A Seat(s)" For The Ghosts Of Dramasoc Past In The New Ngaio Marsh Theatre!

Project 2019-04-01 21:26:09 +1300

UPDATE THURS 2 MAY

Heeeeeeeeello 2nd seat for the rest of the performance clubs!  I'll leave it running for the 19 hours we have left so we can collect more pledges: at this point, if we hit $1500, we'll get 3 seats (Comedy Club, Musoc, Dramasoc? Crew Club?) but if we end up in the $1000-1500 range we'll make a donation to the theatre with the "in-between" money.  WELL DONE EVERYONE!  Let's try for 3!

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 1 MAY

We've BLOWN PAST the target!  Now aiming for $1000 to get us two seats, with second seat being in the spirit of other performing clubs at UC (MUSOC, Comedy Club, Crew Club, etc).  This is our chance to celebrate the contribution of performing clubs at UC to your life, and share that magic with future generations of theatre makers and goers!

WE NEED A NAME FOR THE SECOND SEAT!  It would be good to include recognition for as many clubs as possible in its name; post your ideas for the 2nd seat in the comments below or at the facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/393791807875217/

Who are you?

Are you an ex-University of Canterbury Drama Society person?  Did Dramasoc help shape your life and give you something to do between/instead of assessments?

What are we doing?

A ghost of a script pastThe new Ngaio Marsh theatre has 327 seats up for grabs - and if you donate, one of the engraved name plates on one of the seats will be in the name of "The Ghosts of Dramasoc Past". If you're anything like me, you had experiences in the theatre - or performing around the campus - that helped you become who you are today. We can share that sense of inspiration and magic with those who come to the theatre now!

The money raised will go towards one of the $500 plates on one of the seats in the new Ngaio Marsh, as part of the Save a Seat campaign being run by the UCSA.  For details on the campaign, go here

The goal of $532 accounts for the cost of running a pledgeme on top of the $500 cost of the "Save a Seat" campaign.

Ye Olde Ngaio Marsh

Your rewards for giving towards the plaque are... the plaque.  A little bit of history in the Ngaio Marsh theatre.

I will also write an open letter to the Dramasoc President letting them know what we have done to contribute as past members.  (You are more than welcome to help me draft this!)

It will be signed in the name of each of the contributors, unless you elect to remain anonymous.

Who am I?

I'm Andrew Johnson (usually known in Dramasoc as AJ).  I'm a past President of the University of Canterbury Drama Society (Dramasoc) from the 1990s, and a Life Member of the society.

This fundraising and crowdfunding is a result of another Past President, Erin Harrington, marshalling the troops and letting us all know about the campaign on Facebook.  Brendon Bennetts suggested banding together to buy a seat, and Erin suggested the brilliant moniker "Ghosts of Dramasoc Past" for the plaque.

When does it close?
We're aiming to raise the funds and donate by Friday 3 May.  Pledgeme works on an all-or-nothing model - in the event that we do not raise the full amount, your pledge will not be charged to you.

Any questions?

Contact AJ on twitter @Ajkiwi - he checks it more often than his email!  Or come and talk about this campaign with others on facebook.
