The Book

Eeny Meeny Miney Mo: Tales for Tired Tykes is a book of bedtime stories for children. There are 29 stories, all suitable for pretty much any small human who still enjoys having bedtime stories read to them. They have been sourced from a wide variety of writers from across the globe and pulled together by amazing illustrations by the talented Jon Stubbington. Edited by the Patchwork Raven's own Jax Goss (who has a Masters in Children's Literature), and designed by our marvellous Will Thompson, the book is an amazing collection of tales guaranteed to enthral little people and the big people who must read to them. ;)

Tired Tykes Book Cover

Our vision creating this book was to make sure the stories were drawn from across the world and showed a wide range of lives and characters. We have realistic tales, fantasy tales, stories about humans and stories about animals. The book will be large - A4 sized - and printed in full glorious colour. A perfect addition to any child's bookshelf.

Octavio

Jax, the editor, is a kiddie-lit expert and has gotten great joy out of creating a quality book, full of amazing, diverse tales, and absolutely beautiful illustrations. We're very proud of this book, and hope you will love every minute you spend with it.

The Money

The money we raise will go towards covering our payments to the writers and the illustrator, as well as covering our printing and shipping costs. Anything extra will be ploughed straight back into the Raven to help us continue to make and fund more wonderful books.

 The Publishers

We are The Patchwork Raven. We're a small Wellington and Hamilton based independent publishing company. We have released one book so far (Twelve Days), which we successfully crowdfunded, and which was a great success. Our aim is to keep releasing quality books as often as we can.

We are:

  •  Jax Goss (maverick publisher, editor, and tale-spinner)
  •  Will Thompson (designer and drummer)

The Rewards

As you may have come to expect from the Raven, we will start out with a few basic rewards, and release more as we go. There will be secret artwork rewards that become available as we hit each $150 increment. And no doubt there will be some silly ones that come up as we go along too. Because that's how we roll. Hop aboard! Let's get this going.

 The Art

At every $150 increment, we will release a limited edition art print for one of the stories in the book, along with some info about the story that it illustrates. See our updates section for more information on each story as we release it.

A new book!

11/08/2022 at 5:09 AM

Kia Ora marvellous people!

I am writing to let you know that after a long haitus, the Patchwork Raven is publishing another book. It is called Fourteen Stones and is a novel by Kris Faatz.

Fourteen Stones is a richly layered, character-driven fantasy. The tribal people called the Pala Vaia, “First and Lost Ones,” have lived in Lassar since ancient times and coexisted with the Lasska people, but they have always been wanderers, seemingly out of place wherever they are. Now Lassar’s fanatical new ruler, Impera Shurik, wants to destroy the tribes.

Sixteen-year-old Khari is a Vaia Lamp-Carrier. Her dreams provide guidance for her tribe, if she can interpret the messages they send. Now she must use all her skill, and trust instincts she has only begun to have, in order to save her people from extermination. Her dreams lead her and a small group of Vaia out of their native country and into neighboring Namora, where they must find allies, in particular a Namoran priest with an extraordinary mental gift of his own. The Vaia’s search for a safe homeland will change the lives of all the people it touches, as well as the futures of two nations.

I don't think I have ever read a book like this. I was so excited to be in a position to publish it. The characters have complex adult relationships, the solutions to problems are based in compassion rather than violence, and the people and the world is so lovingly constructed that you can tell Kris is a bit in love with her creation, in the best way.

I would be recommending it strongly, even if we were not publishing it.

Since you've bought at least one of our books before, I wanted to make sure you knew it was happening. I think you'll love it.

Preorder your copy here.

Last night's little drama

10/05/2018 at 5:19 AM

Hi all!

Just a pause in the stream of art reveals to let you know about what happened last night. Pledgeme went down during our last 24 hours, because they had a big release that broke the site.

I started getting messages from people saying they were trying to pledge and couldn't, so I tweeted Pledgeme about it. Within a few minutes, I had an email from them apologising and saying we could extend the campaign. They handled it like pros and totally justified my decision to stick to our Kiwi crowdfunders instead of using the bigger better known international ones. That's how you customer service, kids!

So, the outcome of all that is that instead of ending today at midday, we have an extra day and a bit! The campaign will now end tomorrow evening at 9pm NZ time.

Let's make the most of this! Please make sure you spread the word far and wide. Tell anyone and everyone about the book. Let's hit that target and make this extra time count!

Pledge and share!

And thank you so very. very much to everyone who has come out to support us so far. You are all amazing human beings. We love you.

"Tree Rings" is about time travel and memory.

Born in the American Pacific Northwest and relocated to the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Adam spends his free time writing nostalgia-charged speculative short-fiction and saving the world one internet argument at a time.

"Peaches" is about banding together to overcome a bully, the power of sharing and some very impressive cookies.

James D. Fischer (AKA Jim) is retired in the southeast corner of Kansas (in Independence, the town the young William Inge called home). He recently realized that, in his employed years, every coin he ever earned was for manipulating language (radio broadcasting, community college teaching). He has a considerable love of continuing to manipulate language, in the writing of short fictions and short plays and short poems.

This is the gorgeous artwork that goes with this story. :)
