Magic At Port Nicholson Regatta 2018 Opening Night.
Project 2018-02-03 11:55:41 +1300
Help me to provide a memorable experience for Wellingtonians and visitors to our city. On February 23rd, Kupe will open the New Zealand Festival 2018 with a once-in-a-lifetime event, celebrating the epic voyages of the Maori who first arrived in this land. I’m an Architect and lighting designer who loves Wellington, and I’d love to bring coloured magic to that night, after that unique event, as it’s also the opening day of the historic Port Nicholson Regatta.
How?
Dynamic images, sound and synchronised light will be projected onto the Port Nicholson boatsheds in harmony with moored boats and some of the magnificent pohutukawas in Oriental Bay for 2 hours.
The boatsheds are an icon of Wellington. They’re clearly visible from several parts of the Wellington waterfront. For this special show, they will be the backdrop for a sequence of digital projections synchronized with a sound system. We’ll have lights playing off the boats moored in the harbour, and reflections in the water of the harbour will add further visual effects.
A lighting display won't be complete if we don't add a dynamic lighting effect to another of New Zealand’s greatest icons: the pohutukawa tree. So we’ll have colourful lighting in the trees surrounding the harbour display too.
The roots of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club go back to the days of the Regatta Committee, which was first convened in late 1840, and formally established in 1883. So it’s an important part of Wellington’s history I’d love to enrich. You can read details about that history here:
https://rpnyc.org.nz/blog/history/.
The spectacular lighting show we plan will be a source of delight for hundreds of people. It will be free, and will bring a special magic to the evening of 23 February for people of all ages.
I’ll donate my time and labour, but I need help with basic costs. Will you help me to bring light, magic, and delight to Wellington’s inner harbour?
What will the money go towards?
Dynamic data projection in boat sheds and coloured lights on boats. $1,900.00
Bringing trees to life through a colour synchronised with projection. $3,150.00
Waterproofing of used gear, leading light on areas for public and black light on the club. $1,750.00
...and last but not least
Who I am and who is my team?
I'm a young Spanish Architect who proudly calls Wellington home since November 2010. I'm working as independent lighting consultant since I discovered the incredible ability light has to influence an space.
I'm glad to count on the collaboration of Andy Binns from Hype Entertainment Ltd, Tony Vondruska from Cannibal and Steve Creasy from MJF Lighting Limited.
After have been working for a lighting company, I jumped out from my comfort zone creating Inlucem as a platform where I could work from applying freely what I stand for: putting lighting in value, being light one of the main factors that define our environment. Unfortunately light is often an after thought when it should be taken into consideration since the beginning of the design process.
Light makes a room.
Bringing your ideas to light and light to your ideas is my philosophy.
With your help, it will be for me a pleasure bring a bit of magic to Wellington night.

Good morning lovely pledgers.
I'm so delighted to see the list of pledgers growing. I know that clock is ticking against the success, but I'm keeping up my spirit. I would like to thank you for your support. No matter what, it means a lot to me.
