The seriously cool stuff first.
In this PledgeMe campaign we are trying to gather funds for an Ultimaker 3D printer for our members at the MakePlace to use.
A whaaa??
A 3D printer!.. You've seen them on TV or on the Interweb right? It is a machine with which you can essentially create any shape object you can think of and print it straight from the computer!
Really? That sounds sooo out there!?
We know!
Here is a picture of one of those printers actually printing a Yoda bust:
You can see that the head is slowly made up from plastic, layer by layer, that gets extruded from a nozzle. A bit like printing ink with a conventional printer. How cool is that?
Real cool!
But what is that Makeplace that you mention?
Well. Hawkes Bay (New Zealand) is well known for its wineries, orchards and Art Deco. The area is foremost a tourist destination and a beautiful place to live. Unfortunately this also means that many young and talented local people move out of the area and don’t come back because of the lack of opportunity. Our MakePlace is a shared urban workshop (hackerspace, makerspace, fablab) where everyone is invited to work and create. The people that become member of our MakePlace are inventors, entrepreneurs, makers, hackers, tinkerers, artists and arts and crafts enthusiasts.
So, why the 3D printer?
The 3D printer is the first and most crucial piece of equipment that will be installed into the MakePlace. With this printer we can offer people something that they cannot afford to have in their homes. It allows the creative spirit of our people to flow. It allows them to make things they otherwise couldn't have dreamt of making. In helping us get this printer, you help us help the Hawkes Bay region. And we will be one step closer towards bringing the buzz into the region in the hope that it creates opportunities for our young and talented folk.
What 3D printer do you have your eye on?
We feel that the UltiMaker printer (www.ultimaker.com) is the best value for our/ your money with its large build volume, easy setup and high speed.
We have already contacted Ultimaker and the deal is ready to roll!
Thanks you for your help..!

Hi All,
Guess what we got for Christmas!?
Exactly! A 3D printer! The exact one that we were trying to raise funds for! How great is that!?
Thanks Santa!
Well.. not quite Santa.. We decided to try and scratch funds together by reaching into our own life savings and buy the 3D printer. Raising the funds through PledgeMe would have made things a lot easier, but who said life was meant to be easy, right?
So.. Good news for the MakePlace, but also for everyone who pledged us funds to have a 3D print done. Now we can grant your wish! Just send us an email and we'll get it sorted out for the same amount that you pledged for if you're still keen!
For all other pledgers that have pledged for non-3D printed rewards, please also send us an email and we will grant you your reward for the amount that was listed on our campaign.
Our email: [email protected] or use the contact form on our website makeplace.co.nz.
Obviously if you want to see the printer or have something that you'd like to see printed, drop us a line as well!
Keep updated by checking our website (makeplace.co.nz) every now and again!

Last few days.

The total amount of money pledged hasn't quite reached its goal yet, so there is still the chance for you to get some great rewards through our campaign!
Tell everyone you know and make those last days count!
Thanks from the team at the MakePlace.
