Be Part Of Our New Adventure: Explore! Aotearoa

Project 2017-08-05 10:22:29 +1200

Explore! Aotearoa has surpassed our original goal! Thanks to everyone but let's keep going. The more we raise, the more books we can get out there to inspire the next generation of Kiwi explorers. Let's see if we can get to $6,000.

Explore! Aotearoa is an inspirational children’s book that tells the stories of how New Zealand was explored, by pioneering adventurers.

Each intrepid explorer is revealed with vivid illustrations, historical photos and exciting narrative that explains why they discovered places no one had ever been before.

But we need your help!

We want to get the book out to as many young minds as possible!

We just need $3000 to help print the book.

About the project

Explore! Aotearoa is a journey over the waters, across the land, up the mountains, below the earth and under the sea. The stories of five pioneering adventurers – Kupe, Thomas Brunner, Freda du Faur, Kieran McKay, and Kelly Tarlton – who have shaped the history of New Zealand and the way we see our landscapes.

The author Bronwen Wall is a contributor to the Ministry of Educations’ Junior Journal, School Journal and the Connected series. She has also edited and written several adventure books, including Harry Watson: the Mile Eater and the Tararua Adventure Guide. Bronwen’s dynamic narrative has made these wonderful New Zealand explorers approachable and exciting.

The award winning illustrator Kimberly Andrews has researched and painted all of the explorers, helping capture the excitement, and sometimes desperation, of their adventures. Kimberly was also the illustrator of Tuna and Hiriwa, a finalist in the New Zealand Book Awards 2017.

We have also sourced many amazing historical watercolours and images from around the country to help us bring these pioneering men and women to life.

About the publisher

The Kennett brothers (Jonathan, Paul, and Simon) have been actively involved in the New Zealand adventure scene since the 1980s, and started publishing outdoors guide books in 1991. We’re best known as mountain bike pioneers, but have also tramped, climbed and paddled extensively throughout Aotearoa.

Now, we are a small independent publisher, Kennett Brothers, based in the windy capital, Wellington, and we are dedicated to printing New Zealand books in New Zealand.

Where the funds go

Your generous donations will make it possible to help print the book, right here in New Zealand!

How it works

We want to see kiwi kids engaging with the exciting history of exploration in New Zealand, to get out there, follow in the footsteps of Aotearoa’s explorers and to forge their own paths!

Other ways you can help

Please share our story, help us spread the word and get this book out to as many young minds as possible.

Everyone who donates to this campaign will be invited to attend our book launch at the end of the year.

Please note everything is NZ shipping only.
