Tambura is an off shoot of our family business. Nirmala (my mother) and Ravi (my father) started a food stall a few years ago selling a south Indian delicacy called Masala Dosa. They are humble people and making dosa has always been their hobby. They have had stalls at the famous Aotea square markets on Queen Street, Auckland. Their stall can also be found at all the big festivals around Auckland and more recently the Silo Park Markets located in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter. They were featured on 'A taste of home' hosted by Peta Mathias and have also featured in Metro magazine for their food.
Through her journey in making/developing Masala Dosa, my mother developed her own chutneys and pickles to accompany the dosa. My mother and I have teamed up and we are on a mission to bring New Zealand and the world the taste of our amazing range of chutneys and pickles. Hence we created Tambura.
Tambura is a traditional Indian musical instrument. We chose this name because the Tambura represents the different notes and flavors of the chutneys and pickles my mum creates. The tag line ironically is "Fine tune your pallet".
We have put in some initial effort to create the branding and am in the process of finishing up an initial web-site (I am a web developer so this helps). We have also purchased some jars, labels and have the capacity to only make a few jars of chutney. We require capital to pay for commercial kitchen rental, contract packaging service , purchase marketing material and give our stall a face lift with some awesome sinage.
The Goal
Our goal initially is to promote Tambura where ever possible. Markets stalls, festivals, flee markets etc. We want to build our brand and expand our range.
Once we have made the initial sales and built up our rapport, we will then look to get into the supermarkets, specialty store etc.
Help us achieve the goal of becoming a world renowned kiwi brand. This is a lofty dream, but I believe in the food we make and with your help we can achieve this goal.
