About

QR - CONSERVATION EDUCATION

Project 2014-06-09 16:51:52 +1200

Aim: To bring technology into Conservation Education.

We have been searching for a way to connect technology with Conservation Education in a techno fun way. QR codes (those funny squiggle boxes) can be inserted on signage and provide that link.

We will design 10 new information signs at Nga Manu Nature Reserve with QR codes.  Smart phone users of the world will then to be able to readliy learn about the native flora and fauna at Nga Manu Nature Reserve. Increasing numbers of visitors to the reserve have smart phones and we want to cater for this generation. Visitors will be able to scan a QR code and they will automatically be provided with audio and visual data on the object that caught their interest. Not only will they be able to read some textaul information but they can view pics and hear audio.

Our aim is to trial 10 signs. The budget of $3000 will cover the cost of developing the signs with QR codes, designing the information layout for the smart phone and providing the technology to get the data directly to your smart phone instantly.  Capital Video productions will provide their time and resources to Nga Manu Trust to help us establish this vision. Nga Manu Nature Reserve is administered by a charitable trust and Pledge-me is an innovative tool to raise funds for groups like us. Our objectives are : To preserve N.Z native flora and fauna, provide outdoor conservation education to young New Zealanders and to be involved in recovery programs for our unique native flora and fauna. Nga Manu trust was established in 1974 and adminisiters Nga Manu Nature Reserve in Waikanae N.Z. The reserve protects the largest remanent of coastal lowland swamp forest on the Kapiti Coast and is actively involved in recovery programs for many plant and animal speices. We reach out to you to support our QR signs so we can connect to a "younger generation" and share an awarness with them on our unique New Zealand plant and animal life and conservation in general. Any funding over $3000.00 will go towards expanding the signage concept around the reserve.

We thank you for your support with this project.
