Hi there and thank you for visiting my PledgeMe page!
Watch my video to learn a bit more about me and my appeal.
I have just been selected to compete in the 1500m in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year, which kicks off on the 23rd of July. I feel so privileged to be able to represent New Zealand at an international level, and want to be able to run the best I can.
(Watch my CWG qualifying performance here)
To be in peak condition for the Games, I am going to spend the month of June training at altitude in Font Romeu, a small village in the South of France. I will then run a few warm up races in Belgium and Italy before heading to Glasgow for the Games.
This is where you guys come in – I need help funding my training over the next two months, so that I can have no regrets when I step up to the line in Glasgow.
[Although I have met my project target, every dollar helps my cause - we set a modest target to make sure we could achieve it, but the more I can raise the better prepared I will be going into the Commonwealth Games. Anything raised in excess of what I need for the Games I will use towards preparation for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Beijing next year.]
There are a number of costs involved in living and training at altitude and then racing in Europe. These costs include car rental, petrol, accommodation, treatment and food. Without your support it’s going to be a struggle to pull this off!
I grew up in sunny Nelson, and started running at an early age. With the support of a great coach and teammates throughout my college years, I managed to secure a scholarship to study and run in the US. I spent the majority of my degree at Providence College in Rhode Island, before spending some time in Europe training and racing. I am now taking time out from my Masters to focus on my running, and am hoping to be able to secure a sponsorship deal to support my dream of being a professional athlete.
The support I have received over the years from my hometown of Nelson, as well as from wider New Zealand, has been humbling. It has taken a lot of time and sacrifice to make it to where I am today, and I am hungry to make the most of it. Of all the years I have dedicated to this sport, 2014 is without a doubt the most critical and important of them all.
Thank you so much for your support and for being a part of my team!
Training in Font Romeu, France.
Training at Snow Farm near Wanaka.
I would like to say a big thank you to Pics Really Good Peanut Butter, SOS Rehydrate and Matthews Eyewear Eyecare for donating rewards.
