Help Us Give Soft Toys To Children At Domestic Violence Centres

Who we are and what we're doing

I am a year 13 student named Victoria Zeng at St Cuthbert’s College who is passionate about supporting fellow women especially those who have suffered abuse in the past. Our school follows the ‘By love serve’ motto and we wanted to spread this love to our community. Students from our all-girls school have fallen victim to domestic abuse in the past and this has pushed me and my team of over 20 girls into wanting a better life for these victims. Some people on our team have had experiences with domestic abuse or knew someone who suffered so the anger and hope for these children to have joy has pushed us into ensuring that these children have the best quality and most huggable plushies. We are the right people to deliver this project due to our sheer passion and dedication to this project as well as our love for others.

How we want to help

Our initiative creates small plushies and toys for children at domestic violence centres.

We hope to bring joy, happiness and contentment to all children no matter what background. This idea started after watching a Netflix TV series that reminded me heavily of my relative who also suffered through domestic abuse. The main lead channels her suffering and pain into helping other victims which inspired me to also help other victims as a victim of violence myself. Although this idea may not be new, we are the first student-lead initiative that hand makes these plushies. We have been planning this project for over 3 months and everyone is ready to take the step and start the physical work. We currently have 3 women refugees across New Zealand with children waiting for their very own plushie!

What a successful crowdfunding campaign would mean

To us, a successful campaign would mean seeing the pure joy on these children's faces and the contentment after receiving this gift. We hope to help these children deal with the trauma involved and the raised money would help us greatly.

The money from generous donators will be used to buy thick and soft fabric as well as different accessories in order to make the plushies and toys. Even a small donation would benefit us greatly as the new cost of living limits our ability to buy lots of fabric.

The budget breakdown is as follows:

- Stuffing ($40)

- Fabric ($120)

- Venue hire/Different threads and needles ($40)
