About

Spectrum Work

Project 2023-10-27 14:57:00 +1300

Spectrum Work is a New Zealand-based organisation that aims to provide comprehensive employment-related advocacy, training, and support to the Rainbow (LGBTQIIA+) and Neurodiverse communities.

By addressing the unique challenges faced by these groups, Spectrum Work strives to enhance inclusivity, promote diversity, and contribute to a more equitable employment landscape.

Mission: Empowering the rainbow and neurodiverse communities through advocacy, training, and support, fostering an inclusive and equitable employment landscape in Aotearoa.

Vision: A future where everyone thrives in a diverse and inclusive workplace, regardless of gender, sexual identity, or neurodiversity. A future where organisations value and celebrate the unique talents and perspectives that diversity brings.

The Pain

  • The LGBTQIIA+ and Neurodiverse communities in Aotearoa face significant challenges when it comes to employment.
  • Discrimination and bias are still prevalent in many workplaces, making it difficult for diverse individuals to find and maintain meaningful employment.
  • Not all employers understand the unique needs and perspectives of these communities, which can lead to exclusion, marginalization, and disadvantages in employment.
  • Navigating employment challenges is difficult for most people but can be even more difficult when an individual has unique needs that are often not well understood or catered for.

The Gap

  • Members of the rainbow and neurodiverse communities often lack access to the resources and support they need to succeed in the workplace.
  • This includes advocacy, training and mentorship programs that can help them navigate the complex world of employment.
  • Without these resources, many individuals struggle to find fulfilling careers and when faced with employment-related issues, are often disadvantaged.

Currently in Aotearoa, there are limited organisations dedicated to specialising in providing tailored employment-related support for these communities.

The Solution

Advocacy

Specialised advocacy to assist in navigating employment-related challenges.

Education

Workshops & services that aim to upskill and build confidence with employment rights, and job-seeking.

Coaching/Mentoring

Tailored programmes to enhance career opportunities and job-seeking skills.

Why Now?

The Social Climate

There is an increasing recognition and acceptance of the rights and needs of diverse communities. This is creating an increased demand for businesses that cater to these communities' unique requirements.

The Market

The rainbow and neurodiverse communities represent a significant portion of the population, with distinct needs and preferences. By focusing on empowering these communities, businesses have the opportunity to tap into a growing market with unique talents.

We have the expertise and passion to provide a solution, but we need your help to fast-track the implementation of our project plan.

Our initial funding target of $5,000 will enable us to launch our marketing for the services we offer and to commence running our education workshops.

If with your support, we are able to raise an additional $7,500 we would also be able to operate our Helpline and provide immediate assistance.
