Wild Beasts
Project 2013-01-03 05:50:06 +1300
Brand spanking new theatre company Lucy + Luke Create (the brainchild of Kitsch Bitches duo Lucy Bennett and Luke Wilson) is staging their original play, Wild Beasts, as part of the Basement Theatre’s Auckland Fringe Festival season— and they need your help to make it fabulous!
The trouble is Wild Beasts is not like other plays. Wild Beasts does not take place in a theatre, but within a whimsical woodland which takes the form of a giant, hand-made tent that the audience will inhabit alongside the beasts. Sadly, this tent will not build itself— we will build it, but only with the help of your kind contributions! Specifically, your donations will be used to purchase linens, sewing materials and lights, but more importantly, your donation will help provide shelter and clothing for the beasts, and will help us create a strange and tiny world within the Basement Studio, in the heart of Auckland’s CBD.
We have budgeted $1000 to help us create this world, and we’d like to raise it by the first of February.
And your help will not go unrewarded! As well as experiencing the deep sense of smug satisfaction which comes with being a patron of the arts, you will receive actual rewards, as listed on the right hand side of this page!
But who are Lucy + Luke?
Lucy Bennett recently completed her English and Art History degree at Auckland University and has written and directed numerous short plays over the years, the most recent being Cheese, which was performed as part of Stage 2’s Stir-Fried Plays festival. Luke Wilson is graduate of Wellington Performing Arts Centre and The John Bolton Theatre School, and was most recently seen as Amby in Smoke’s Labours production of Mab’s Room.
Our goal as a company is to make the kind of theatre that we’ve always wanted to see— theatre that is adventurous, whimsical, and clever. We don’t want our audiences to sit back and absentmindedly consume our plays. We want them to enter the world of the play. We want it to be an immersive experience. We want them inside the tent.
