The Film:
Division is an independently funded and produced feature film. It tells the story of Mary, an institutionalised slave to Bobby, who is a differently abled person, and their bizarre relationship.
Set in a dystopian society, Division explores themes of power, nihilism, absurdism, love and compassion, and minority representation in cinema through surrealism and the juxtaposition of disturbing behaviour with engaging aesthetics and abstract tones.
Division will be unconventional within the parameters of New Zealand cinema, and it is the director’s vision to push the audiences expections, particularly through the casting of a differently abled person in the lead male role. It is the filmmakers’ passion and ambition to create fresh cinema that truly drives this film.
The Cast/Crew:
Mike Kumagai, writer, producer and director, has produced and directed over 15 short films and videos, with his movie 'Motel Love' being selected for Kimera International Film Festival in Italy, among others. His showreel can be found though this link:

Lead actor, Paloma Schneideman, is co-writing the script, giving her a more personal insight to her character, and an opportunity, she says, that will bring her performance alive.
Ryan Hazlitt-Black , a graduate of the Southern Institute of Technology, will be composing the score for the film. Some of his work can he found here:

While we have chosen to work with a microbudget, we do need a little funding.
Your generous pledges will help us secure the perfect location — a charming villa located in rural Auckland; amazing actors and some beautiful costumes and sets . Mike, Paloma, and all the crew are working purely for the love of it.
Thank you in advance, for your kind help in pushing New Zealand cinema to a whole new level!
