Project 2019-12-03 23:09:15 +1300
Girls2Girls aims to empower teenage women from refugee backgrounds to recognise and apply their character and leadership potential in order to settle as proficient New Zealand citizens. Girls2girls was established in Hamilton, 2015, to help teenagers from refugee backgrounds settle into New Zealand. Through preliminary background research, ROC Trust discovered teenage girls who had recently arrived in the country were finding it difficult to integrate into New Zealand because of three main barriers: Culture shock, isolation, and school failure. The programme was set up to tackle these three areas: Foster friendship (and combat isolation) by creating a programme where girls of all backgrounds and beliefs feel accepted and understood. Foster professional ideals (and combat school failure) by providing opportunities for academic support Foster understanding of New Zealand culture (and combat culture shock)
