Chromacon 2013 | Illustration & Comic Arts Festival

Project 2013-04-07 03:06:00 +1200

Welcome!

Chromacon is an independent Illustration and Comics Arts Festival taking place on the 12th May 2013 at the Aotea Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

Over 60 artists from all over NZ will be showcasing art and promoting self-published works.  We will also be hosting a variety of live art demos, discussion panels and talks throughout the day.

The event will be completely FREE for public entry.Chromacon is a platform for artists to showcase their work and engage with the wider community. As such, a core philosophy of the event is to make sure Chromacon stays free for public event so that everyone can take part!

Why Pledgeme?

Due to the community driven, non-profit nature of Chromacon, our budget is extremely limited. However, we would love to promote our inaugural event to as many art-lovers in New Zealand as possible.  As such, we need your support to help fund our street poster campaign with Phantom Billstickers in Auckland CBD and other marketing materials.

100% of funds generated from this project will go towards letting as many New Zealanders know about Chromacon as possible as well as other technical/ staffing costs.

Thank you for your time and support. We hope to see you in May!

“Chromacon represents the next logical step for New Zealand’s illustrative and comic arts.”

Greg Broadmore, Weta Workshop & Creator of Dr. Grordbort

Chromacon is a celebration of visual storytelling.  It is a non-profit, grassroots effort to create a platform where artists can showcase and promote original art and other self-published works to the wider community.  The event will also feature drawing/painting demos, artist talks, discussion panels and other experiences to engage and educate attendees on visual storytelling in New Zealand and beyond.

Our chief aim is to provide a dedicated event for New Zealand artists to share art and ideas in an intimate, art-focused environment.  We envision a platform through which our internationally recognised artists, designers and illustrators can share their work not only with each other and small, dispersed communities, but with the general public on a larger scale. By crafting a compromise between an intimate art-audience environment and an open public event, Chromacon provides unique opportunities and experiences for both arts practitioners and audiences.

Chromacon also imagines itself as an organisation capable of educating, promoting and advocating for comic artist and illustrators. Art from these fields is often misunderstood and dismissed; we hope to develop a larger, more insightful community who better understand and appreciate not only the end products presented at the event but the ideas and processes behind these works.

Looking ahead, we hope to develop Chromacon into an annual event, taking local art to international audiences, and bring international talent to our shores in the name of furthering artistic, intellectual and professional exchange and collaboration.

One week left! New reward tiers

29/04/2013 at 7:30 AM

Hi everyone, we have just one week left until our campaign ends!

Thanks to your support we've passed the 3/5 mark but as you know, unless we hit our goal we won't receive ANY of the pledges so far.

I've gotten quite a few comments from fans of Chromacon that they're quite interested in either the Chromacon 2013 Art book or T-shirt, but are a bit strapped for cash for the "CHROMA Vol.1" or "Tees!" reward tiers.

No worries! I've created two new reward tiers just for you! If you choose the special "I just want the Art Book!" $30 pledge you will receive a signed copy of our Chromacon art book (100 pages filled with art from Chromacon 2013 exhibitors and guest artists from around New Zealand).

For T-Shirt lovers, choose the $50 "I just want the T-Shirt!" pledge tier.  Our shirts will be printed by the awesome guys at Mr.Vintage (there's been a slight change, the shirts will now be white).

Thanks again for your time and support, keep spreading the word guys!

Less than 10 days until our PledgeMe crowd funding campaign ends!

We're nearly 3/5 of the way there but we need your support!

Remember, if we don't reach target, we won't actually receive any of the pledges so far. So please support us or share with your friends and family!

Here's a preview of our Chromacon badges, it's not much but we would like to thank everyone for your support from the bottom of our hearts.
