Rugby League World Cup

My name is Byron Curtis. I play for He Tauaa rugby league club and South Island Scorpions. In late June, I will be traveling to the Students Rugby League World Cup in Leeds, UK representing NZ as a player of the NZ University & Tertiary Students Rugby League. I am the only Southland-Based player in the team – I am a proud partner and father of two, residing in Invercargill and I am a second year student at Southern Institute of Technology, studying a Bachelor of Sport & Exercise. Being able to represent New Zealand and the Southland Region at the World Cup is a huge honour for me.
We all individually have the financial commitment of $5,000 to fundraise for the tour and it has proven a challenging task so far, approaching many corporates supportive of Rugby League only to be told they don’t get enough exposure. However, for many die hard rugby league people and myself - it’s all done for the love of the game! I have since decided to try social media in an attempt to fundraise 20-25% of the cost + pledgeme fees. I hope to achieve this with the help of family, friends and the generous people of pledgeme as well as some rewards, which I will work hard to source and update as they become available.
