Counterpoint is a Dunedin based theatre company that aims to promote theatre amongst young people. In 2012 Counterpoint produced its debut show of Toa Fraser's Bare, which had sell out houses every night forcing the producers to extend the season. A review for that production can be found here.
In 2013 our aim is to put on six diverse and exciting shows providing acting, directing, designing and technical opportunities for as many as 100 artists, as well as running workshops with industry professionals and producing the performance works of other young Dunedin peeps.
Counterpoint is run by Alex Wilson (Dunedin Theatre Awards' 2012 Emerging Talent for directing) and Hadley R. Taylor (1999 North Taieri T-Ball, Most Improved Player)
We've budgeted $3000 for our entire season. This will pay for venues, marketing, props, costumes, design, and performance rights. All proceeds go straight back in to funding more shows and opportunities.
Our shows are based on a co-operative model whereby all collaborators receive a share of the box office of their show.
We are aiming for Pledge's to fund half our season, to get us up and running, with the second half of our season being funded by ticket sales, fundraising, sponsorship and artist grants.
The details of our season are a secret squirrel surprise that you can uncover by Pledging to our cause! As we reach target goals, we will release our season details, as well as the individual rewards you will get by Pledging.

With the sweet victory that our wonderful pledgers have secured for Counterpoint, not only does this mean we reveal our 2013 season, not only does this mean we have the opportunity to help out many young aspiring Dunedin artists but it also means the Counterpoint Bros sing their victory song to all you lovely people. Enjoy!

WOWEE!!!
Goal reached! We at Counterpoint HQ are reeling from the support we have received. Due to your contributions six fantastic shows fulled to the brim with opportunities for young Dunedin artists to showcase their abilities, is possible. On behalf of all of those young artists, we sincerely thank you from the bottom of Tiny-Tim sized hearts. We are also playing the Counterpoint victory song non-stop (Youtube link attached - if you want to join the party http://youtu.be/ZZ5LpwO-An4)
However there is still more time to pledge. Our total season will cost $3000 - so any more we receive will go straight to our season and opportunities for young people. Every extra cent we recieve will go towards marketing and producing these shows and giving our actors, designers and directors access to whatever they need for their creative visions.

Join us for this dark comedy and your chance to see a real Christmas story.

The Counterpoint Brothers feel like we are on the other side of summer and its Christmas time as overnight, we broke not one but two reward barriers!
The Mystery Reward is currently being finished off and should be revealed in a few days. It makes us feel a little peculiar...
But now it is time to reveal the identity of show Number 4 which is....
Moose Murders

Ten unlikely guests including the Holloway Family, a failed comedy double act and a suspicious caretaker are trapped in the Wild Moose Lodge during a storm. The group pass the time by playing a murder mystery game. However, real murder occurs and real mystery ensues. Is it the mysterious "Moose Murderer" returned from the dead, or something much more sinister? Moose Murders opened and closed on the same night on Broadway and has become the benchmark from which all bad Broadway shows are measured.

A sheep is merely a lamb’s way of making another lamb.
New Zealand is a nation born and bred into the agricultural mindset starting in a Canterbury whorehouse in 1863, and ending in Christchurch in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake - Sheep is a series of quirky snapshots of young people trying to make sense of their lives and this industry, both of which are dominated by increasingly complex relationships between technology and biology. Sheep asks whether these things exist to serve us, or we exist to serve them.

Piccolo Cor is a collaboration between dance and devised
theatre and is a spiritual sequel to the show of the same name performed by the
troupe for the 2010 Dunedin Fringe Festival. Piccolo Cor explores questions of
individualism and belonging, competitiveness and cooperation, relationship and
disconnection, beauty and happiness. The
performers hope to take you on a journey in which you can explore where
community and belonging is in your life and to celebrate the connections
achieved by allowing ourselves to be seen, deeply seen, vulnerably seen.

Box/Role/Dream
is about shifting the boundaries of your comfort zone to its outer
limits. Perhaps,even, to a place you did not think you would go. Through
a unique invitation into the personal lives of others, the audience is
invited to consider their own perspectives and have their prejudices
challenged. Chanwai Earle considers a natural response to awkward
situations and then flips this on its head, back to an audience to
consider themselves implicated in moments of personal revelation.
Playmarket Synopsis
A
trilogy of tales: a man in a sauna reveals his violent past; a
well-meaning woman learns that help on the streets isn't always wanted; a
drowned sailor tells of the escape that didn't work as planned. A trilogy about
the funniest and most tragic moments of three people's lives. A
conversation in a sauna, an incident late Friday night in Cuba Street
and a final moment on board the Mikhail Lermontov.
