Chinese New Year Festival

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

In the traditional Chinese calendar, 2013 celebrates the Year of the Snake.  Asian Events Trust (AET) will celebrate this auspicious occasion with a colourful and family-orientated festival hosted in Wellington, the ‘coolest little events capital’ on the weekend of 23 & 24 February.  Go to www.chinesenewyear.org.nz for the full festival programme.

Now in it's 12th year, the Chinese New Year Festival has created a strong sense of community spirit and plays a vital role in enhancing the social, economic and cultural prosperity of Wellington.  It is an important means by which the city demonstrates the value it places on closer relations with individuals and groups from within the Chinese community.

Shenzhen Song and Dance Ensemble

AET are thrilled to bring the Shenzhen Song and Dance Ensemble to Wellington for the 2013 Festival.  This internationally acclaimed group of 20 performing artists will be the headline act for the Festival and will present a ticketed performance of their colourful and dynamic original production 'Phoenix Dancing Over Oriental Land' at 7pm to 8.30pm on Sunday 24 February, at the TSB Bank Arena.

This 5-act performance showcases the artistic and cultural essence of China, presented in diverse forms of dance from traditional, ballet, contemporary and solo styles, which compliment stunning costumes, music and stage and lighting design.

How can you help?

International performers such as the Shenzhen Song and Dance Ensemble are critical in the growth and development of the event and having a group of this calibre participate in the programme is a wonderful opportunity for the wider community to enjoy and appreciate the rich culture of China.

We need $5000 to help fund the costs of hosting this group during their stay in Wellington.  All proceeds from PledgeMe and tickets for the show will go towards these costs so that the price of tickets can be at level that makes the show affordable and accessible as possible to the public.

At $20 for adults, $12.50 for children and $59 for a family pass (2 adults and 2 children), this show is one that is not to be missed! Go to www.ticketek.co.nz for booking information.
