Funk On The Water

Project 2022-05-27 18:29:54 +1200

Funk on the Water is a new craft beer festival at the Boatshed in Wellington NZ, that celebrates small-scale wild, barrel-aged, farmhouse beers and ciders. We aim to bring small-scale, geeky beer festivals back to the Craft Beer Capital. We have brought together dozens of small and hard to find producers from around the country for a day of funky beer on the sunny Wellington waterfront.

A standard Funk on the Water ticket includes:

- Admission to the inaugural Funk on the Water festival, October 23rd
- Branded festival glass (that's actually made of GLASS)
- Token card with TEN tasters to get you started (valued at $40)
- $5 food voucher for a snack, or to go towards something more substantial

All Pledgme backers will also gain early access privileges to all future FotW events, so you can secure your ticket before they go on sale to the general public.

We've got some of the biggest and smallest names in New Zealand beer on board for the inaugural Funk on the Water festival, many who are releasing a brand new beer for FotW:

- Craftwork (Oamaru)
- Garage Project Wild Workshop (Wellington)
- 8 Wired Barrelworks (Matakana)
- Brood Fermentation (Nelson)
- Deep Creek (Auckland)
- Small Gods (Auckland)
- Cell Division (Dunedin)
- North End (Kapiti)
- 9 Barnyard Owls (Gladstone)
- Wilderness (Christchurch)
- McLeod's (Waipu)
- Concept (Christchurch)
- Emporium (Kaikoura)
- Tiamana (Wellington)
- Wild & Woolly (Wellington)
- Sunshine (Gisbourne)
- Hallertau (Riverhead)
- Peckhams Cider (Nelson)
- Elemental Cider (Otaki)
- Rhyme & Reason (Wanaka)
- Shining Peak (New Plymouth)
- Burke's Brewing (Tekapo)
- Peckham's Cider (Nelson)

Funk Society consists of Annika, Nisha and Dave - three friends and long time Wellington beer geeks.

Dave Wood has managed beer bars in Wellington and Edinburgh and has plenty of beer festival experience. Dave helped organise the Pacific Beer Expo and the SOBA Winter Ale Festival from 2012 - 2016.
Dave is currently the president of the Craft Beer Capital Incorporated Society and works behind the bar at Golding's Free Dive.

Annika Naschitzki founded and operated the Wellingon brewery Tiamana, running the business for four years. She is a regular beer & cider judge and now spends her time growing fruit to make wine, schnaps and cider in the Wairarapa.

Nisha Pullan is an all round beer nerd. She started as a home brewer many years ago, moving on to working in local breweries, craft beer bars and specialised bottle shops. Nisha is a Certified Cicerone® which opened up the world of beer judging and stewarding - and finally organising a niche beer festival!

While we will be able to cover the overheads of running the festival through ticket and beer sales - ticketing platforms hold ticket money until after the event date. Crowdfunding the first ticket release allows us to access the ticket income to purchase things like branded glassware, posters, tokens, festival pamphlets, gas, licenses and all the other tiny things you need to run a successful festival.

Final Info - See You Tomorrow!

22/10/2022 at 5:41 PM

Kia ora PledgeMe Backers!

Things are looking good for tomorrow's inaugural SOLD OUT Funk on the Water festival. All of the kegs & bottles have arrived, taps and gas are here and the weather doesn't look too bad! (maybe a bit windy).

Today was a beautiful day to pack some things in to the Rowing Club. It might not be this pretty tomorrow, but it's not gonna rain!

Know Before You Go

Here's a few key points to help make tomorrow as enjoyable as possible:

Door times: Early admission ticket holders will be allowed in at 12:00pm. General admission of all other ticket holders begins at 12:30pm.

- Extra tokens can be bought with EFTPOS only. Due to the fees, we will not able to accept contactless or credit card payments. But don't forget, you get 10 tokens in your glass to get you going - so hopefully the usual early token rush will be spread out.

Bring a hat & sunblock up! There's not a huge amount of shade out on the balcony, so make sure you slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat and wrap on some sunnies. We'll bring around sunblock to top you up during the afternoon. Probably also bring something warm because it's Wellington...

Stay hydrated. Water stations will be at every bar, bring a drink bottle along to fill up!

Stay fed. Taco Addicts have an amazing menu of tacos and cheese set for tomorrow, check it out. Some of the tacos are bound to sell out during the afternoon so make sure you get a good feed in you early. Food is bought with EFTPOS, but you will get a $5 food voucher to make those first tacos a bit cheaper.

Check out the beer list! The final beer list, along with bar assignments and floor map is available now on the website. We added three beers to the list this week so they'll be missing from the list in your programme tomorrow!

Thanks again for your early support, we literally couldn't have done this without you.

Nga mihi nui,

Annika, Dave & Nisha

Kia Ora Koutou,

Thank you so much for supporting Funk on the Water!

We should reach our minimum target any day now. Your pledges are integral to us getting this funky geeky show on the road, nga mihi nui.

--

Since launching last week we've confirmed two more producers for the inaugural Funk on the Water:

Peckham's Cidery & Orchard from Nelson

The Peckham whanau create some of the best ciders in Aotearoa from 30 different cider apple varieties grown on their own orchard.

&

Small Gods from Auckland

Small Gods are the brewing arm of online beer retailer Beer Jerk. They regularly collaborate with breweries from all over NZ to produce beers with a unique mix of tradition and modern influence. Expect something out of the box from Small Gods at FOTW.

We're still confirming all of the specific beer details - many are still in barrels! No spoilers.

Thanks again for your support!
