About

New Work For Waiheke Sculpture On The Gulf

Project 2022-01-25 09:32:13 +1300

I am excited to be exhibiting in Waiheke Sculpture on the Gulf, opening March 3rd 2022. I will be staging my most ambitious and largest work to date, titled SENTINEL. The work will stand as a daunting figure within the Waiheke landscape by day, while lighting up at night, acting as a futuristic beacon, visible to the permanent inhabitants of the island as well as the boats which pass by. The work will continue my research into the phenomena of the monolith, breaking down the formal, cultural, technological and navigational ideas behind it. Themes of existentialism, human evolution, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life are culturally inherent to the monolith. This work is thus concerned with the intersection of these associations and the formal artistic practice of light/ colour theory. In order to complete the final elements of this work, however, I will need extra financial support.

I am fortunate to have managed to get funding from Sculpture on the Gulf and sponsorships, as well as committing my own money, but I am still in need to complete the final phase of production. Without your support, I may be unable to complete the work—so any contribution would be amazing!

By pledging to this project, you will help me finish of the fabrication of the work’s metal frame, pay for transport and electrical work, as well as support the purchase of the last remaining materials needed to finish the work.

Please share this project with your peers and anyone who would like to support  <3

Much love, Tyler
