Darren Watson | New Single 'Marion' Music Video

Project 2021-12-30 12:00:10 +1300

Hi everyone. I hope your 2021 went well, all things considered.

It’s been a really quiet one for me on the performance front but I’ve been writing like mad and I have a lot of good songs ready to go. So, what’s this here all about then? Well, I’ve written a really cool song and recorded it at Lamington Studios with a few friends. I’d really like to release it with a great video ‘cause it’s an interesting story and worthy groove.

Clive Copeman, the mega-talented director behind the Ernie Abbott video has come to me with a great idea for a short film to accompany the song. But it’s not going to be free to produce and frankly after a couple of years of not much gigging I don’t have a cent to my name other than what I’m scraping by paying the rent with. I am so proud of this one, folks and I think you’re going to love it.

So . . . how would you like to help us make a video for my new, cool single ‘Marion’? We’ll really need about $3,300 to do it right. But we are seeking $1,800 as a target here. Some folks will be working gratis – so if we go over this total rest assured all the money (minus this sites fees) will be paying for someone’s hard mahi. As video budgets go, by the way, this is pretty tiny. But I know Clive is going to deliver something great just like he did with Ernie Abbott. Yep, all the money raised will pay for actors, props, wardrobe, makeup, travel, accommodation, equipment, filming and editing.

We are aiming to have the single and video released by mid or late March, 2022. Obviously I’m not asking you to do this for nothing. I expect a lot of you already have all my albums in various forms so what I can offer, along with a free digital download of the new single, is a massive shout-out, and personal thanks on the video credits, there’s even ‘executive producer’ credits available. And please let me know if there’s anything I can offer as a reward that I haven’t thought of yet.

Thanks for reading and while I’d really appreciate your support I know that some cannot manage a contribution right now. If you’d please consider sharing this page with your mates via social media to help us get there it’d be massively appreciated!

Thanks everyone! We've hit our minimum target and so, thanks to you we'll definitely be making this film.

If you could still manage a few more social media shares getting the word around that would be awesome. The campaign runs until the end of the month and every extra dollar will go to paying the people who were previously doing the hard yards for love. I would really like to be able to pay them a nice koha for all their efforts. There'll be two days location shooting, and days of editing to get it right. Hours and hours of work.

Anyway, thanks heaps for getting us to the minimum target. It's SO appreciated.

Marion | Lyrics

05/01/2022 at 10:57 AM

Now Marion got to the heavenly gates
and walked on in like he owned the whole place
but Saint Peter said no, bro, you don’t get to go
‘til I get a good look at your face
Says here your name is Jacobs and I understand
you were just thirty seven years old
so tell me your story and please keep it brief
and I’ll let you in out of the cold
Yeah, my name is Jacobs but my friends call me Walter
and I struggled with some shit my whole life
never did find a soul that could settle me down
let alone what you might call a wife
I hit the road, and the streets you might say
as a child of twelve in the South
and I travelled around and worked on my sound
as I tried to get by with my mouth
I went up to Chicago and I played with some cats
but you prob’ly ain’t heard of ‘em, man
suffice it say they all did it my way
and we toured and I carried the can
But my sound was a thing that some people can’t sing
like those crooners out selling their shit
and before I knew what, I was losing the plot
and went crazy just chasing a hit
So here I am in this light – I got beat in fight
one of many that I can’t recall
Bro, please let me in ‘cause I’m suddenly cold
and my head hurts from taking that fall
Hey Walter! Here’s your harp and welcome on in
Peter grins as he hands him that thing
What the fuck is this shit? Here, I brought my own
and Walter leans down and plugs in . . .
