Collab Project with Blue Oyster

The Blue Oyster Arts Trust (BOAT) was founded in Dunedin in 1999 as the governing body of the Blue Oyster Art Project Space that provides a high quality, dynamic program of experimental and innovative contemporary art practice.

Hi, I'm Max Bellamy, an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in Dunedin, and I have been invited to exhibit a new artwork at SUPERMARKET 2013, Stockholm's independent art fair. I am already busy making the new video artwork to show for the first time at the fair in February.

Myself and Jamie Hanton, director of the Blue Oyster Project Space in Dunedin will attend the three day exhibition and surrounding talks, presentations and performances. My new video work will be shown alongside works from artists converging in Sweden from around the world. SUPERMARKET features exhibitors from more than 35 countries, all part of a growing international trend of artist-run galleries, project spaces, artist collectives and other artists' initiatives. The aim is for SUPERMARKET to be a place where a wider public can become a part of what is happening on the artist-run scene.

Being able to attend SUPERMARKET will be a fantastic opportunity for me to rub shoulders with artists and art professionals from around the world, check out Stockholm's vibrant art scene and is sure to be an inspiring journey in general.

I am seeking support in paying for my return flights to Sweden. My flights were $2366 and I'm hoping to raise $2013 from my Pledgeme campaign.

I have already had some fantastic and generous support from Jan Warburton, Mint Gallery and Bellamys Gallery but I need your help make this project the best it can be. I have some great original artwork rewards to offer and If you spy anything else on my website or remember something you have liked from an exhibition in the past, flick me a message and I might be able to arrange something other than the rewards on the sidebar. Keep your eye out for new rewards popping up too.

Thanks for your time and generous support, I'm looking forward to keeping you up to date with my progress.

That's a wrap..

So Monday and Tuesday's shoot in Southland was a success. Me and the brilliant team supporting my project had a great time and got a lot of fantastic footage for me to work with. I was hoping that some unexpected creative sparks would fly and they certainly did, the unpredictability of making moving images is part of why it is such an appealing medium for me. It really is like herding cats sometimes, and you have to embrace that. Once you do, it can yield great results that are impossible to foresee. Now I'm head down in my edit and starting to arrange some of the practical concerns around my trip.. like cold weather clothes!!

Will keep you posted about how the next week goes... it's going to be a busy one.

Getting closer...

Thanks so much for all your support so far everyone.

Things are going well in the lead up to the SUPERMARKET exhibition. Hard to believe I'll be on my way there in a months time. I've been busy writing material and pre-production plans for the new video artwork i'll be shooting in just over a weeks time on location in Curio Bay, The Catlins. I've assembled a great team to get involved with the production and cannot wait to get down there. I'm thrilled to be heading down south for another project, reminds me of all the fun I had in 2011 when I was based in Invercargill making my 'Borrowed Time' series:  http://www.maxbellamy.com/index.php?/project/borrowed-time/

I'll be sure to keep you updated as things progress.
