Collab Project with Fringe
The Wellington Fringe Festival is an open-access festival held every summer involving a wide range of shows across all artforms in venues throughout the city.
Hi! We're returning to the NZ Fringe Festival in 2013 with a brand new dance work, Gizza Hoon. The premiere at BATS Theatre will explore the relationship between global commercial pop music and Kiwi social interactions.
Inspired by the YouTube generation and late night Courtenay Place antics, Gizza Hoon offers dark comic insights and hot sensory explosions.
The creative collaborators behind the critically acclaimed OCD dance work 'Thricely? Precisely. A pocket full of pips', and surreal rom-com 'Don’t Eat the Bed' have reunited for a third Fringe offering. Choreographer Brigid Costello and composer Tane Upjohn-Beatson along with a team of highly skilled performers and designers are creating an original pop story which steps outside of their comfort zone into the shiny, amplified world of auto-tune, twerking and relentless thumping beats.
Funding will help us to cover the costs of hiring a dance-friendly rehearsal venue - gotta look after those dancers' bodies! In addition, we have five dancers to costume... have you SEEN Gaga and Minaj's latest styles?! Appropriate footwear for dance is also essential. We have some pretty wild ideas for set and we'd like it to be moving and shaking along with the dancers as part of the choreography! Funding would allow us to represent the visual spectacle of the pop world in our own unique way.
Crew:
Director: Brigid Costello
Music and Sound design: Tane Upjohn-Beatson
Set Design: Robin Aitken and Alex Keegan
Lighting Design: Ben Williams
Publicity Design: Alex Keegan and Matt Paterson
Dramaturgy: Thomas McGrath
