June Hayes Recording Project

Project 2012-12-10 01:19:53 +1300

Hi, I'm June Hayes - jazz vocalist.  At the end of 2011 following a series of life changing experiences, I embarked on a journey of self-healing, allowing myself time to come to terms with the tragic loss of my son. During this time I found the inspiration to write and record my very first collection of original, contemporary music (with a jazz flavor) that would appeal to a general audience.  The collection is in part, interwoven with subtle Maori/Pacifika themes in a composition, lyrical, and historical context in acknowledgement and respect of my Maori heritage.  The stories within the lyric are deep and meaningful.

The CD 'June Hayes - Journey for the return home', an almost year long labour of love, is being produced by Billy Karaitiana of Muscle Music in the Far North, and is now entering post production phase.   It comprises 13 tracks, one of which is a very compelling orchestral piece with spoken dialogue entitled 'Tangaroa'.  Billy's expert knowledge in all areas of production and musicianship, his like-minded 'feel' for the interwoven themes, and his commitment  is absolutely stunning. I'm honored to have him (Bass) and some of New Zealand's finest musicians including Kevin Field (piano), Roger Mannins (saxophone), Daniel Hewson (guitar), Suzanne Lynch (Backing Vocals), Acoustic Intent (Ben Sharplin & Hayden Baker - Backing Vocals), working on the project as well as whanau including Taipari Munro (Narration on 'Tangaroa'), Dr Benjamin Pittman (Poem -'Ancestral Pathways' Tangaroa, and CD illustration) and my sister, Maria Fitzsimmons-Baker (Karanga).

While I have self-funded the bulk of the cost to produce the CD so far, I need to raise $7,500 to cover post production costs (mixing/mastering/manufacturing).

I aim to release the CD at the end of January 2013.  Your support in helping me achieve this aim will be much appreciated.
