Paul loves using the John Deere ride-on mower at the Moxie Orchard, his weekly work-skills initiative set up by Recreate NZ.

Paul is an awesome young man living with Down Syndrome, who looks forward to working at the lemon orchard each week.

As Paul's mum says:

'Paul loves the outdoors particularly the physical work associated with gardening and this has given him the confidence to use equipment such as the ride-on mower, hand mower, secateurs and tools for maintaining the orchard. Through the programme, Paul has also learned about health and safety and has cited several examples to me on maintaining safety, how to use gardening tools appropriately, how to harvest the fruit as well as enjoying selling the fruit to the public.'

'Paul also enjoys the social aspect of catching up weekly with his friends, having some laughs, learning alongside them and how each of them work differently. I believe the inter-personal relationships are just as important as the work skills learned and Recreate provides both of these through a well organised and supportive learning environment.'

Unfortunately, the engine recently seized on the current ride-on mower and it stopped working! At only 4 years old this was unexpected and has now left Paul and his colleagues in a dilemma - how to get a replacement quickly, as the grass will soon be growing fast again?!

As a registered Charity Recreate NZ needs to fund-raise for capital items and using Pledge Me for the first time seems like a great idea.

This has been such a great exercise for us, with what do on our Moxie initiatives being generously vailidated and supported by all your pledges!

We have gone and ordered Paul (and the crew) a new John Deere D130 ride-on mower!!! So stoked....

Thanks to everyone for their genrosity, we're going to get there for sure...

Hi all, Pledgeme have kindly agreed to extend our closing date due to the current unique circumstances! Yah..

We now have until the end of May to raise our funds.

What that means for existing pledgers is that you won't be asked to finalise your pledge until the end of May 2020.

We'll post more once things have settled down and people are more comfortable with this ''new normal'' we are living in.

A last little effort should get us over the line and have Paul and Co cutting those lawns again - the ride-on has been voted way better than the push mowers!

An update - the largest pledge will now receive naming rights for the new mower (should we hit our taregt!), call it what you like...

All our vans and trailers are named so why not the ride-on mower!?

So nearly a week in and we've shot past the $1,000.00 mark - thanks again to all those who have pledged! We are now over 20% of the way there, so please share so we can spread the word and get Paul back on the ride-on again!
