About

The Human Voice At {Suite} Gallery And The NZ Academy Of Fine Arts

Project 2019-11-08 18:10:48 +1300

A splintering relationship becomes high art in Jean Cocteau and Francis Poulenc's lushly operatic monodrama "The Human Voice" (La voix humaine). Kiwi Tabitha Arthur directs US-Kiwi soprano Barbara Paterson and Polish pianist Gabriela Glapska in this moving, complex portrait of a woman in crisis. Sung in English and staged amidst the stunning imagery of top contemporary visual artists at {Suite} Gallery and the NZ Academy of Fine Arts, 'The Human Voice' promises to be a thrilling theatrical event, posing critical questions of intimate communication, authenticity and artifice in a technological age.

Please consider a donation to help cover the costs of venue hire, a rented (and tuned!) piano, lighting, costumes, props and marketing, and of course to help pay the wonderful artists who are making this project happen. Opera is a complicated affair and we want to do this properly! Thanks for your support, and we'll see you at the show.

{Suite} dates: Fri 31. Jan and Sat 1. Feb at 7:30, Sun 2. Feb at 2pm

NZAFA dates: Thurs 27. Feb, Fri 28. Feb and Sat 29. Feb at 6pm

26/01/2020 at 1:56 PM

Kia ora pledgers,

We're less than a week out from our first Human Voice season, and I'm organising everyone's ticket rewards. If you claimed double-ticket as a reward for your pledge, can you please email me with your preferred show date? My address is [email protected].

I will email your tickets to you this afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing you at the show!

Cheers,

B

THANK YOU

We're up two more donors overnight! Thanks so much to Graham Atkinson and to another Anonymous donor for your contributions to The Human Voice.

Here's the 5th of the Szymanowski songs that Gabi and I did last year. Definitely my favourite of the set, and I love them all, so that's saying something....

Some Polish art songs for your Saturday afternoon :-)

Dear pledgers, thank you again for your generosity. Here's a snippet of Gabi and me with our good friend Karol Szymanowski last year. One of the rewards for the super big donations is a whole recital of this luscious material! Love to you all.

THANK YOU!!!

Oh my goodness, we're nearly halfway to our funding goal for The Human Voice!! Thank you SO much to our generous donors. You guys all rock. Gabriela, Tabitha, Isadora, Meredith and I are hard at work bringing this opera to life (massive week of rehearsals just finished, and more to come in the next fortnight) and your support is buoying us along. Thank you.

We've got 11 days to raise just over $2k to meet our funding target. Let's do this, my arty dears. Love, B
