Here is what I would like to see happen in Rotorua;

Youth / Job Creation / Social Enterprise

It’s time to be forward-thinking and for positive innovative ideas to engage and motivate our young people. For every unemployed adult in our community, there are 3.4 youth (aged 15-24) in the same boat. So what can we do? I see a solution of impact investment and social enterprise which use business models as a tool to help solve social, cultural and environmental issues. This collaborative approach involves central and local government, iwi and other investors including individuals, philanthropists, business and institutions. This will provide the future workforce with vital experience and real practical skills. What would you like to see for our youth?

Fresh / Innovation / Change

People say the same things to me; ‘We need fresh youthful people on council', and 'the unnecessary spending needs to stop’. No question about it; the council definitely needs to be more prudent and wiser with ratepayer funds, especially for the sake of our families and future generations. Here is a novel idea. How about more council collaboration with local community organisations and no-more outsourcing of council contracts to out-of-town organisations? Keep the mahi and the money in Rotorua. Ka pai?

Culture Shift / Honour

The world is changing quickly which requires a culture shift within council and councillors. How can we expect people to respect each other when some of our leaders have such dishonour for each other? Where is the role-modelling? My number one goal when working with groups is to develop a positive, respectful and team-honouring culture. I have accomplished this in the military, with business groups, and with our young people. Well-being is vital and a culture shift needs to happen!

Beyond 2030

To move Rotorua into the future requires new thinking with a focus on solutions, the environment and people including our youth. We all want Rotorua to be more vibrant, more productive and more innovative. The only ones with the power to bring change is ‘us’. It is your vote; it is your voice to bring that change.

I am an Advocate for Our People and Our Community. I am Making a Difference.
