Change The Tide Kāpiti

Project 2019-08-26 15:11:24 +1200

By visualising the climate emergency in our own backyard we hope to create urgent and necessary action in the Kāpiti community. We are going to put up billboards along the Kāpiti Coast to instantly convey the urgency and intimacy of climate catastrophe. As young people from around Kāpiti, we want to be heard. We want to raise our voices amidst the stagnant discourses that surround climate conversation. We are fighting for the future of Kāpiti, and want you to join us!

We want our crowd to think about the future of our community. Climate change is a very real issue for Kāpiti. Coastal erosion and groundwater inundation are growing threats to our region.  This is a project for, by, and with our community, therefore, community buy-in is essential.

These billboards would be situated around Kāpiti and near busy hub spaces to ensure that the issue of climate change is at the forefront of people's minds when going about their daily routine. We are designing these billboards to have a visual element and to catch the attention of those driving past, while also ensuring they can read the content of the billboard.

We also want our community to feel empowered to implement change. For this reason we have also created a website (https://changethetide.org.nz/). This is be specific to Kāpiti, and creates a forum for those wanting to become more engaged in climate protection and how to support various environmental community groups who have already begun doing the work.

We are the Kāpiti Future Leaders. We are young people from Kāpiti who are increasingly concerned about the climate emergency facing our community.

We want young people to be heard and involved in the conversation and we want more to be done about it.
