‘No such as an unrecoverable lie’

The story begins at night in a durian orchard, a smart phone is recording on a girl Qing walking into the woods. It is a durian picking session. She squats beneath a tree and waits for durians to fall. There is a fruit thudding on the ground not far away, Qing dashes towards the dark corner returning with a durian. Excitedly, she splits the fruit apart and describes how beautiful it is to see it split like a blossomed flower. Suddenly, the smart phone screen captured something with a low demonic grunt moving in the bush nearby. Quick as wind, the unseen being dashes forward with everything recorded through the phone screen. Then there was snowflake on the screen and blackout.
As the sun rises, Yuan wakes up beneath a tree. He has a fresh scar on his forehead with the marks left by durian thorns. He vomits from the concussion and searches for Qing. Qing is no where to be seen but has only left behind her sling bag and red cap on the ground. There is a portable charger and a bunch of keys in her sling bag. Yuan couldn’t recall what has happened. His memory stops at where he is supposed ask for Qing’s marriage on his birthday party. Traumatized by the lost of Qing, he wanders into the woods searching for her. He sees tree barks marked with a flowery pattern along the way.
He is lost in the woods but anyhow the flowery pattern leads him to a small tent that belongs to Rong. Rong explains that he has been here for several years and has never step his foot out of the woods since then. He says that he is here to complete writing a novel, a biography of a man that regrets his whole life due to a single lie that hurts. Yuan describes his incident and asks Rong whether he is aware of Qing’s existence. The answer was negative.
Strange things begin to happen when night falls. Rong disappears, Yuan being hunted by the demonic creature and the mystery of the durian orchard slowly reveals itself. At the meantime, Tiff enters an apartment with a paper bag of a new smart phone, sexy lingerie and a birthday cake. She prepares herself while waiting for her partner to celebrate his birthday. She calls her sister and says that she will not be home that night. While waiting for her partner she records some romantic wishes with the new smart phone which is a gift for him. Strange things begin to happen in the apartment and its surroundings since then which link up to the puzzle that connects the entire mystery of the disappearance of Qing, tragedy of Yuan and Rong.
A shocking twist!

‘Flash’ explores and challenges the extent of willingness to sacrifice in covering one’s hideous lie and dark past. Sadly, no one escapes as the flash turns on. The fact is always either black or white; the grey spot doesn’t exist. The project is independently funded.

We are looking for support for Wanja Carre's travel expenses to Malaysia and for some post-production costs.

The film will be produced by Alex Lee of Inkubator Limited. Alex is an established film producer whose previous film, The Last Magic Show, winning awards at the Dances with Films Film Festival and the Qantas Screen Awards and released theatrically in New Zealand. He also produced the short film "Love & Luksaah" which was a finalist in the Asian Festival of First Films In Singapore for Best Short Film. He has currently a number of feature drama and documentary films in development and production.

David Chan will be Cinematographer. Since graduating from the University of Canterbury David has worked on various independent features, short films, music videos and promotional videos. He is currently a freelance Cinematographer scheduled to DOP for an upcoming independent feature in end of December and Mark Lee’s next feature ‘FLASH’ in Malaysia end of January 2913.
