Keep Cliffs Rd Creative!

Project 2019-08-05 08:25:16 +1200

Kia ora te whānau nui! This may be a long shot (and there are many other, perhaps more, worthy causes at the moment - https://www.protectihumatao.com/what-can-you-do.html for one) but a part of my heart won’t let it pass without having a crack!

This project is called Keep Cliffs Rd Creative.

57 Cliffs Rd has been a sanctuary for environment and community minded people for 9 years now (well, that’s how long the sort of people I have come to be inspired by have lived there). 57 Cliffs Rd is a rental property though and the landlord has decided that it is time to sell, for big money.

The aim of this project is to raise the money to buy 57 Cliffs Rd (we have been told by mortgage brokers not to expect help from the bank). I want to give this crazy idea a chance because I see in 57 Cliffs Rd the potential, in many ways, for it to carry on being a creative centre for community and environment connection. Essentially, that is what this is the first step towards.

If this step is successful, next steps down the line could include such things as: the formation of a group of kaitiaki to ensure good carry-on into the future; continued renting/bed and breakfasting/workshop/space providing to koha further funds for things like maintenance, development and artist residencies (i.e. towards more community and environment connection!).  ** Please note that these are just ideas at this stage, the main thing is securing the space. The right things will happen thereafter I'm sure!

The two main things that give hope for this project are: first, the physical location of 57 Cliffs Rd provides a unique channel from the city into the awe-inspiring, south-coastal environment and back; and second, the love and energy that has been put in here by amazing humans over the years gives a special vibe, worthy of continuation.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge the Pledge Me platform and the all or nothing nature of this project - it feels like a fitting and exciting way to do this! We are aiming for the minimum it may take to buy 57 Cliffs Rd, including 6.5% being deducted for Pledge Me fees (our landlord has already turned down offers above $950,000, I hope that whatever we raise here may be worthy enough to persuade him!). If we don't raise the target/don't get Cliffs Rd, Pledge Me rules that everyone gets their $$ back and we will find other ways to love our community and environment. So, this is really a wee test of what is out there - mō tātou ā mō kā uri a muri ake nei.

Tēnā tātou ☺ Mauri ora!

Today Is A Good Day!

Today Is A Good Day!

Stoked to have this out of head and heart and into the universe to see what happens!

I filled up my mirror, in tougher times, with quotes to 'Keep It Creative!' like my friend Hōri used to say.

One of them was a poem - the one Michael put on the last page of his 1990 book 'The Prayer Tree' (which is worth a read, along with all of his stuff in general!):

"Let It Go

Let It Out

Let It all unravel

Let It free and It can BE

A path on which to Travel!"

I am good at hanging on to things but I think that it is good to get things out and share them with others - the universe! - so that it/they/we can grow!

So, yeah, regardless of how this all goes, today is a good day! I feel that I (and hopefully we) am (/are) going to enjoy having this creative outlet for the next few weeks as well as learning about the process of how to create them.  Hopefully this experience can be shared somehow in the future!

Here is this picture (again!):

Today is a good day!

And (for good practise) the newest version of the logo:
