Coro Summer Fest Needs A Resource Consent!

Project 2019-06-14 16:10:49 +1200

Coro Summer Fest is the lushest boutique festival around! Community, friends, family, dancing barefoot on the lawn, picnic under the trees, games and amazing live music into the night. It's a small festival put on by family and friends, and we love putting it on as much as people love coming to it.

------

The festival has been running more or less under the radar for 5 years, and has gradually received more attention. The local council (TCDC) have been super cool for the past 5 years, they've not asked too many questions and supported the event - and we've maintained a good relationship with the neighbourhood - but we can't fly under the radar any more; we need to tick some official boxes and get a resource consent.  It'll cost about $8000 - including the application fee, planners costs, a proper traffic management plan, acoustic consultants, environmental impact report etc.

Basically we can’t afford to pay that straight up - but we can work it into our festival budget without compromising on what we can deliver - in fact the event will be much better for it.  So we'd like your help to get us over the line!

How confident are we?

We are absolutely confident that this will be approved.

The council have been really supportive of the move to getting a consent, and are helping us work through the process. But obviously we still need to to things properly and show that it can be run safely and without causing too much disruption. The biggest hurdle is getting written approval from affected neighbours.  In 5 years there have been no complaints lodged and we've maintained a good relationship with those who are most affected.

Thank you!! wow, we are so humbled by the response to our pledgeme campaign, it means so much that there is a community of supportive and enthusuiastic people out there, willing to help out to keep Coro Summer Fest going.

We're not out of the woods just yet though, and the hard work for us has really only just begun. We have been working with a planner - Tracey Lamason from Planners Plus - she is excellent and is helping us put together then best Resource Consent application we can. And although the council are supportive - they want this to continue as much as us - we still need to do a lot of work to show that the effects on the neighbourhood are worth it for one night.

We do have some opposition - it's not much, only from 2 households of 30 affected neighbours - but it's still important that we respect these neighbours and find ways to mitigate the effect on them.  This might mean extra tight traffic management and stricter enforcement of a 'no parking' zone out on the roadside. Things that we can absolutely do and which does not change the awesomeness of the festival inside the gates.

We are moving full steam ahead, we're feeling positive and hope to have an application ready to submit within the next two weeks.
