Save The Te Puke Post Office
Project 2018-10-17 11:34:35 +1300
Update as of 28th November 9pm Total pledged including Paper and emailed pledges $43,176.50 Paper pledges will be added to the total before closing.
The Te Puke Centre Working Group is in negotiation to purchase the NZ Post services to allow it to remain in its present location. The Group will operate it as a social enterprise that returns it profits to support Te Puke. This business purchase is an integral part of the Te Puke Centre initiative: To establish a professional, neutral and central shared space that supports the community, visitors and our industries through the provision of information, connections and community development.
We have grasped this amazing opportunity to save the Te Puke Post Office as we know it but it also provides an innovative solution to establishing the long-awaited information / visitors centre and a central shared space.
A pledge is a donation to the campaign but it is not paid until we reach our target. If we do not reach our target your donation will not be taken.
This Pledge me campaign is to purchase the post-box management, Bill-pay and postal services in Te Puke. The funds will also cover the associated costs of the purchase (legal & advisory).
If we are able to reach beyond our target of $50,000, we will use the excess to advance the creation of the Te Puke Centre with the optimum target being $65,000 which will allow us to hit the ground running.
Currently Te Puke Centre Working Group is in the process of establishing the Te Puke Centre Charitable Trust. The following are members of the all woman working group who are pulling this project together.
Karen oversees the project as Chairperson and will become a trustee of Te Puke Centre Charitable Trust. Karen is a returned resident of Te Puke, having moved back to the area in 2014. Presently self- employed as a Community Development Specialist and has a deep passion for empowering communities through the development of Community Plans.
Monique is our deputy chair and has enjoyed seeing this project through development. She will also become a trustee. Monique is a proud supporter for the community of Te Puke because of the sense of belonging she feels with her family, she plays her part in creating this for other families and individuals across the town through events and other activities.
Nicola is our Treasurer and will also become a Trustee. Nicola has lived in Tauranga and Te Puke. Life in Real Estate has precluded much time left over for other voluntary activities but Nicola has found the development of the Te Puke Centre Project worthwhile and invigorating the clear need for the asset for the Te Puke community, a central co-ordinating and information hub for all groups can only be a good opportunity – a Front Door to Te Puke.
Jenny has recently won the award for Employee of the year in the Te Puke Business awards, she is incredible in her role as Secretary becoming a trustee as well and can recall local history better than any encyclopaedia. Jenny has worked as an Electorate Agent in Te Puke for several respected Members of Parliament since 2001 and been a Justice of the Peace since 2002. She is a very giving person who doesn’t think twice about pitching in to help the community.
Dale is a crucial in her role as Liaison and will become a trustee. Dale has lived in Te Puke for 17 years with her husband 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Dale is employed by Plunket as the Community Services Coordinator for the Western Bay of Plenty. Dale's enthusiasm is contagious and her drive to complete projects makes her a valuable team member.
Viv is on the working group and will also become a trustee. Viv is a Chartered Accountant who commenced sole practice in Te Puke in 1994, founding and developing a thriving business, The Business Results Group Limited, now known as BRG. Viv is delighted to be contributing her financial and commercial skills to the Steering Group and is loving working with a group of passionate, dedicated and, at times, comedic women.
Carolyn has recently returned from living in Australia, she found herself trying to find a community project to sink her teeth into, so we were so pleased she wanted to join our team. She has many skills that she brings to the group including great organisational and communication skills. Carolyn has already shown to be a real asset to the working group with great knowledge of the town and the community.
Due to the time it takes to register with Charities Services and the associated ability to set up a bank account, the collection of pledges will be undertaken by the Sustainable Endeavours Charitable Trust on our behalf. We thank them for their support.
We would also like to take the opportunity to thank those that have supported the development of this project:
Mark Boyle EDG Te Puke
Rachel Glasier, Akina Foundation
Ben Sandford, Sandford and Partners
Russel McVeagh and Partners
Western Bay of Plenty District Council
