About

Power Shift NZ-Pacific

Project 2012-10-24 00:24:35 +1300

Power Shift NZ-Pacific will be the largest youth climate summit to hit the South Pacific region and we need help to get our young people there!

From the 7-9th December at Auckland University, hundreds of young people will be gathering to learn, laugh, share and take action on climate change together.

What happens at Power Shift?

- There’ll be workshops on everything from Climate Change in the Pacific 101 to Psychology and Climate Change.

- Speakers like Lucy Lawless, Bill McKibben (founder of 350.org) and Brianna Fruean (a young climate change organizer from Samoa) will inspire and motivate.

- Participants will develop skills to become active citizens in their communities and be given the opportunity to be a part of an exciting (but still secret!) climate change campaign in 2013.

-There’ll be lots of chances to meet and chat to people from all around the Pacific region, enjoy music, performance and be a part of a colourful public action at the end of the weekend.

Young people from around Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific islands will come together in support of a youth climate movement in the Pacific and we need everyone in the room! Power Shift is led by young people, for young people. No matter what level of climate change knowledge or campaigning, we encourage everyone interested in a better future to attend.

Why we need your help

It’s important to us that Power Shift has participants from every corner of Aotearoa New Zealand and that we can celebrate our cultural diversity. Donations from this campaign will be used to provide scholarships to young people facing financial hardship, young people on the frontlines of climate change and youth from Maori or Pacific backgrounds. Scholarships will cover the cost of transport to and from Auckland. Power Shift NZ-Pacific will match every $200 donated with a free ticket for scholarship recipients (valued at $90).

Who are we?

Power Shift NZ-Pacific is being organized by 350 Aotearoa, Generation Zero and a number of individuals. We’ve got support from Auckland University, UNICEF Pacific, EECA and many more generous organizations.
