About

'Kaleidoscope'

Project 2018-10-02 16:06:39 +1300

15 years ago I received a CNZ Arts Grant to travel to Brazil and study Samba. This was a momentous time for me...alone with no Portuguese...but oh the music.

I was hooked, the rhythms, the culture the warm, generous people.

At this point I started my compositions which were, naturally, heavily influenced by my time in Brazil. My soul was torn between New Zealand and Brazil so my focus became to make music that is an amalgam of my culture, my musical study and my time in Brazil. and here we are....

I recently returned from Brazil having recorded 1/2 the CD 'Kaleidoscope' , my own compositions, with superb Brazilian musos. This trip we financed ourselves so here's the rub....

The remainder of the tracks I want to record here in NZ and thereby have a truly multicultural sound....a snapshot of my friends with their wonderful musical talents playing the music I wrote in the two countries I love.

With YOUR support I can complete this project, record the remaining tracks and share this beautiful music with you all.

Thank you Marcelo for your awesome playing on 'Stone Eaters'

Loved playing with Adriano Giffoni. On my second visit to Brazil I bought a book on Brazilian rhythms for bass....guess who wrote it?

A sneaky peak at one of the tracks I want to record here in NZ. I had a great time playing 'Anchored in Time' with some great musicians in Pirenopolis. Thanks Isa and Nelson.
