Thank you for clicking into our Pledge. We need help funding our 2012 Dance Showcase please read on for further information about me and our Dance School Rhythm Nation Performing Arts.

The video above demonstrates what we are currently working on in our classes. The photo's are from past performances :)

I am Colette Inkster (23 years old), dancer, choreographer and dance school director. I have always been passionate about dance and musical theatre. After High School I spent a year training in Melbourne and returned to Christchurch in 2010 determined to help grow and develop the performing arts scene in New Zealand. I have been running Rhythm Nation Performing Arts Company for 3 years now.

At Rhythm Nation I teach Musical Theatre, Jazz, Tap, Singing, Drama, Hip Hop and Contemporary dance for all ages with students currently ranging from 5 to 35 years.  We are not a competition/syllabus focused dance school but are much more family orientated, where students attend because they love to dance and perform. Our whole year is geared towards perfecting performances for our end of year show and because we are family orientated I try and make classes affordable for all families and students.

We are only a small school with 60 students and do not currently have our own studio. We have had to move to multiple venues due to the Christchurch earthquakes, but I have been lucky enough to have dedicated students who have continued to dance with me throughout these challenges.

This year our showcase is called ‘A Recipe For Dance’ which was inspired by a poem written by one of my intermediate students. This poem made me realise how much dance, means to and influences my student’s lives. By putting on a professional end of year show it gives my students the opportunity to develop a sense of self-esteem, self-confidence and have a sense of self achievement through showcasing their year’s hard work. This year’s showcase will mix together all different dance styles and will be on December 22nd 2012 with Matinee and Evening shows. Our show will encompass all elements of professional lighting, costume and sound and is an opportunity for family, friends and the community to come support our student’s achievements and hard work.

In the months leading up to our show I hold extra practices at no extra costs to the students or their families. This gives the students the opportunities to gain confidence in their skills and performances. For the show I try to keep costume expenses to a minimum and we have fundraised through t-shirt sales to help keep these costs to my students down.

I have dedicated, passionate students who work as hard as they can throughout the year to develop their skills and performances. We are a small Performing Arts Company but have big dreams and the passion and drive to make them a reality. However, we need support from our community over and above what we have been able to raise ourselves to help fund our end of year show case (including venue hire, lighting and costumes). Please help us follow our dreams!!!
