#ComeTogether

WE NEED YOU!

The #ComeTogether initiative is the community connectedness part of Miss Lilly's Angel Trust.

The other half our work is focussed on timely, effective and empowered community response during times of natural disasters and crises. The two go hand-in-hand.

                                      MLA_Logo_Blue_RGB.png

A simple Facebook post moments after the Kaikoura Earthquake brought together more than 2000 volunteers and local businesses over a period of 5 days.

The relief operation didn’t just help the earthquake damaged areas, but it proved to our local communities our strength as a collective and that love can move mountains - or in this case, the Canterbury Frigate.

Please see here for detailed accounts.

                                  More than 30 families who were affected by the Kaikoura Earthquake or participated in the community operations were invited to share their stories and favourite family recipes, as part of a book project.                                                                                                                     Come Together Inside Pages

The book intends to celebrate the deep community spirit demonstrated by the volunteers who came forth in the earthquake relief effort, to create open conversations and connectedness. It also brings awareness to the ongoing wellbeing needs of quake-stricken communities. All through a familiar medium of home-cooking and bringing people together through food.

* Please refer to link here for book sampler.

Being a former trauma counsellor, Larina noticed many volunteer families were still mentally struggling with the previous Canterbury quakes.

Many volunteers had never had communicated the painful emotions they still were living on a daily basis. Most just got on with it and tried to get over the traumatic experience.

Within weeks of visiting, interviewing and photographing the participating families, “Come Together” evolved into “#ComeTogether”, a community initiative. It is also the key campaign of the Trust.

The official launch of #ComeTogether and the release of the "Come Together" book take place on 12th November 2017.

All #ComeTogether events focus on:

  1. Celebrate the strength and resilience of the average kiwi person in times of adversity.

  2. Bring people together, being more connected as a community.

  3. Facilitate and grow connectedness in neighbourhoods.

Through the #ComeTogether campaign, we:

  • Create and grow healthy and empowered communities;

  • Foster trust and connectedness through sharing food open conversations;

  • Nurture individual and collective well-being through ongoing uplifting and creative community events and education, free online resources, and family-oriented workshops and trainings.

The key event is the #ComeTogether Word's Largest Potluck Lunch, which will gather more than 4000 kiwis to share food and laughs with each other. This is a free community event held in the red zone of Christchurch.

The Potluck Lunch will be followed by #ComeTogether Kaikoura Picnic in Churchill Park on the anniversary of the Kaikoura Earthquake. We will also be visiting Waiau to support the local communities on the 12th November.

All funds raised through PledgeMe goes towards -

  • #ComeTogether World's Largest Potluck Lunch, a free community event in the Christchurch red zone.

  • Printing of “Come Together”, which will help us be self-sustainable going forward.

  • #ComeTogether Picnic in Kaikoura, a free community event in Churchill Park on the anniversary of the earthquake.

  • Future creative and innovative community events, training and education focused on deepening connectedness and healing.

No part of the funds raised goes towards administration or other running costs of Miss Lilly's Angel Trust.
