The Body Lyre: New Record

Project 2012-10-06 23:10:48 +1300

Hello,

We've decided to crowdfund our new record, the 'Blood/Work' 7”. These are two new songs - our first material since 'Escape Songs' - and they're two opposing halves of something whole (I'm not sure what).

LISTEN: 'Blood/Work' at Bandcamp

'Blood' is a distant and sparkly track that started as a blues riff and ended up a sludge of guitar worship, bleating trumpet, out-of-tune harmonica and some sampled vocals of distant singing on Marion Street at 3am.

'Work' is more direct; a quick six-minute track that sits somewhere between garage rock and metal, with lots of lyrics about various things like water, freedom and gardening.

Your much-appreciated pledge will go towards the pressing and printing costs of the 7", and there are lots of different options available. As well as the 7"/digital download, we're also selling our 2011 LP 'Escape Songs' on vinyl for the first time, as well as a CD/Book version of the same album, some shirts and some more limited edition pledges for those who really want to help us out.

We've always made our music free to listen to, and it's meant we've been broke for a long time. We want to tour more often, pay for a regular practice space and generally stay more active as a band. So if you pledge us money, we promise to use it to make more music.

PLEASE NOTE
: PledgeMe doesn't take payment by bank deposit. If you're in NZ and you don't have a credit card, please send me a message with what you want and I can pledge it on your behalf - email [email protected].
PLEASE NOTE 2: You can make multiple pledges for different items, and you can keep pledging after we've reached the target - just treat this as a pre-order.
PLEASE NOTE 3: Relevant shipping costs within NZ and overseas are listed with each pledge. If you're pledging for multiple things and aren't sure about the total cost, send me an email. If you're in Wellington and you'd prefer to pick up your reward, don't add anything.

On this recording, The Body Lyre is:

Rhydian Thomas (vocals, guitars, trumpet, harmonica, sampling) Callum Gay (drums, percussion) Angus Winter (guitar) Graeme Cummack (guitar) Kalem O'Brien (bass)

Our biography:

We started as a bedroom recording project. We released our debut EP ('December Marches') in 2009 and starting playing shows in various lineups around the country. Then we spent a year recording 'Escape Songs', writing and recording one song for each month of the year and collecting them together for an album to be released by Mole Music. Next there were more lineup changes and more shows, but still no album out. Life got busy with jobs, study, other bands. More lineup changes. We played more shows, including a pair of particularly inspiring ones that woke us from our temporary slumber. We decided to get our shit together and make a new record, called ‘Blood/Work’.

Our present lineup has current and ex- members of Strangers, Spook the Horses, Old Loaves etc. We probably sound like other bands; you can choose which ones. We recorded the new 7" and decided to crowdfund the costs of pressing it on vinyl while releasing 'Escape Songs' at last alongside it. And here we are.

We make music because we can’t stand to live in silence.
