WIPCE 2017 | June On Earth
Project 2017-06-04 19:28:08 +1200
Kia ora,
We are Wai and Ta. Together for 7 years, recently engaged (woop woop), from Waikato, now in Auckland. Plant-based, planet concious, very passionate about our work and we're pretty crazy motivated to do what we love - kaupapa.
We are fundraising to attend WIPCE (World Indigenous People's Conference on Education) this July in Toronto!
This opportunity will enable us to learn more about culturally-grounded initiatives, network with indigenous leaders from around the world, and find our place on the global stage of indigenous upliftment.
WIPCE is our next big step toward being leaders for our people, creating more meaningful initiatives, being who we are and doing what we love.
BUT to get in the door WE NEED YOUR HELP!
WHY | World Indigenous People's Conference on Education
"When I was younger; playing marbles and spinning homemade beyblades; feet made for running on gravel with a voice like Elmo; the WIPCE festival came to my marae - Turangawaewae"
- Tamoko, 11 years old
12 years later, the conference has since been to Hawaii, Peru, & Australia. Soon to be Canada, home of the First Nations People. Indigenous leaders from around the world will be sharing how they are impacting their communities and their people through initiatives, movements and education that is designed for indigenous, by indigenous. This is a week-long event that will help us grow as passionate leaders for our people and ultimately, help shape our passions into something we can pursue full-time.
To be surrounded by leaders and change-makers from around the world would be a privilege in itself. We want to be part of this, with your help we can!
To get in the door we need $1600 NZD each. We need an army of support to get us in - We hope YOU can be a part of our army!
WHAT | June On Earth - Pipiri Ki A Papatūānuku
To help fundraise for WIPCE, we have released a new initiative. We hope that this kaupapa will showcase who we are, how hard we're willing to work, what we're passionate about, and what we're capable of.
June On Earth | Pipiri Ki A Papatūānuku
Pipiri June | Close | Be Together | Lunar Month of the Māori New Year | Signifies Matariki
Papatūānuku Planet | Mother | Earth
What does this mean?
A month dedicated to raising awareness and giving back to our planet.
- No meat or animal products (eggs, cream, butter, even gummi lollies!)
- Transitioning to zero waste (being concious about what we buy and how it's packaged)
- Using organic/cruelty-free/natural products (made with little to no impact on our planet)
How long?
June On Earth runs from the first Monday of June (5th of June) to the first Monday of July (3rd of July). Despite finishing on 03/07, our campaign will be open until the week before WIPCE.
This is not temporary, although the campaign has an end date, living June On Earth every other month of the year will become a lifestyle change for us and our commitment to Papatūānuku.
Next year we aim to get 10,000 people on board #JOE - we hope you can be one of them! Help us get the word out - this one isn't just for us.
HOW | How your support will help us!
Here's what the funds will cover:
-
*$3200 NZD WIPCE registration fee
-
*$250 NZD Rewards!
-
*$250 NZD PledgeMe Fees
We've covered our flights and extra activities outside of mahi and we'll be staying with a friend in Toronto (Hi Troy :). If all the stars align and we crack it, any surplus pūtea will help us with travel visas, insurance, kai and transport for the week. As the saying goes, Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu - however small, it is as precious as greenstone
Be a part of our journey
Follow us on our journey to WIPCE, and through our first June On Earth, at chuurJOE. All updates and insights will be loaded here if you're keen to jump on board.
All we ask for is positivity and support.
Nō reira,
If you've made it this far, thank you! We hope our journey inspires you to be fearless in the pursuit of what you are passionate about.
Check out the rewards, and if you can, make a contribution to help get us one step closer to WIPCE.
