About

Cycle Of Life

Project 2017-05-01 15:18:32 +1200

Our initial goal is to raise $550 to buy 3 bikes for foster children in New Zealand, thanks to the kind support of the community, we have reached that goal. But we would love to raise a further $185 to buy one more bike for a foster child.

Who are we?

Cycle of Life is a project that aims to provide bikes to foster children supported by the organisation Fostering Kids NZ. We are a group of teenagers wanting to support those in the wider community. Through providing these bikes, we will give foster children new opportunities to be active and experience the joy that owning a bike can bring.

Why are we doing this with Fostering Kids NZ?

Fostering Kids NZ is an organisation that supports children in need of permanent or temporary homes. These children are provided with caregivers who support, encourage, and heal children and teenagers in a healthy home environment. More than 10000 children cannot live with their biological parents for a variety of reasons, so the work that Fostering Kids NZ does by supporting foster families is greatly appreciated.

We hope that a new bike might help those who may be adjusting to a new lifestyle and environments.Cycling has proven to help kids get to know their local area and feel more part of their community as well as encouraging good travel habits young. Biking can become a passion for many children and is an enjoyable activity with positive effects on the overall well-being.

How will bikes support foster families? Why should you support our initiative?

We are fundraising because, as a small community, we want to make a difference. By donating and helping to support us, it enables foster kids all over New Zealand to get active, outdoors, and enjoy the social benefits that come with riding a bike. Biking provides another transport alternative to places like school, after school activities, and the weekends, when children are hanging out with their friends. Biking in your neighbourhood is a great way to meet your community and encourages people to meet others and get involved. It’s fantastic fun and many children enjoy it much more than other forms of transport. Biking has also been proven to boost a positive mental attitude and reduces stress. For young children,  biking can be very therapeutic and beneficial to their wellbeing. Cycling promotes independence and growth of the young mind and kids who bike to school are often more alert and ready to learn. Our main point of difference, however, is the family and social focus we want to encourage by buying these foster kids bikes. It provides additional opportunities for family and friends to interact and have fun which can bring people together and promote positive relationships.
