Let's Build A Pottery Studio!

Project 2017-05-01 00:38:46 +1200

Lets build a pottery studio! I'm Hazel a New Zealand artist based in Otorohanga, Kiwiana town, inspired by the Fae realm. I whisper with Goblins, create mystical creatures & summon butterflies.

While my main work is making clothing at Hazelmade, my soul craft is working with clay, however, I live in a housebus & have very little space to do so. So I would like to offer my art in exchange for pledges to make this dream a creation in this realm!

I created my first piece of pottery when I was 9 years old, a great Norfolk Pine was cut down on the little island I lived in, upon exploring the rings in the trunk, I discovered natural clay & spent many days working with it, I made a hand which held a candle & later recreated it in art school, to my tutors delight! Working with clay is in my blood, knowing I had a internal fire for clay work, I was blessed to meet my mothers biological mother to discover she was an incredible potter too!

For the past 2 years, I have been stealing moments, attending weekend workshops & night classes to grow my skills & collect tools, molds & knowledge. I am already a gifted sculptor & am so excited to grow my techniques & artistic vision.

I have a bare space that would be perfect, however, it needs plumbing, furniture & a kiln to come to life.

My vision is to be able to offer workshops & a creative space for people to come & explore the magic of clay.

I have set my goal low at $1000. This will help with a kiln, ideally I need $2000 for a kiln, however, I am keeping a close eye on Trademe in the hopes something pops up.
If I reach $3000 - $3500 this will allow me to install water & a sink in the studio as well.
If I reach past $4000 I will be able to install shelving & have a display/shop area at the front of my workshop, further stretch goals are to purchase more pottery wheels & tools to allow more people to come have a play with clay.

What else am I doing to achieve this goal? I am currently driving an hour to work in a studio in Hamilton on Mondays, I then go to a night class to increase my skills & work there until 9pm before driving home again. I am currently making the products listed as rewards so they will be ready to send once my Pledgeme campaign is complete.

We have a kiln! Project closes 1st July

20/06/2017 at 9:39 PM

Thank you so much for all of your pledges, I have been working away at a few of your rewards & creating new magic along the way! {Including these moon phase wall hanging sets which I've just added as a pledge}

With some kiwi ingenuity & a little creative genius, I have found a way to attach flowing water to the studio without paying for plumbing! I have aquired a big secondhand double sink & no longer require the large budget I initially thought! So this means we can close the campaign EARLY on the 1st of July & I can start getting your rewards to you!

Any further Pledges recieved will go towards the gallery furniture, shelves & a pottery wheel or two, so please feel free to help get the word out before it closes in just over a week.

I AM SO EXCITED to send my magical creations from my hands to yours xx
Thank you again for helping make this a reality!

First goal funded!!

Oh my GOSH this project has been funded in a week!! Thank you so much for the support! I have started making most of your pledges & I'm loving seeing which of my creations will become yours!

The first $1000 means I can buy a kiln, I also have to build it a little shed {I think I will use a kit set garden shed, but I have a couple of months to work that out} any pledges made above this will go towards plumbing the studio! Anything further than that will go to furniture & tools for future workshops, I'm really looking forward to sharing this magic!

Here's a Garlic Goblin I'm currently working on, should I add them as a Pledge?

Introducing 'Secret Earth Ceramics'

18/05/2017 at 1:28 PM

Inspired by this project, I chatted with some Pixies & we've decided on a name! So I spent all yesterday morning creating, adjusting & tweaking a logo & will be having a stamp made in time to create your rewards! Thank you so much for your pledge, we are almost half way to the first goal of getting a Kiln!

xx Hazel
