Buy To Give With MAKE GIVE LIVE

After a bit of a breakdown/meltdown/serious bout of depression - what ever you want to call it (most of us have had them) I almost lost everything and I was forced to stop and really think about what I was doing with my life and WHY. After a lot of soul searching and discovering, I realised I could put my skills and experience to good use helping others overcome something I had struggled with myself, particularly while pregnant with pre-natal depression. That was when I picked up knitting again with a friend and found so much therapy in the mindful process of knitting and the joy of creating something useful and beautiful in a time when I wasn't able to do much else. Of course the comfort and distraction of having good company certainly helped too - that and a lot of cups of tea!! I decided if it worked for me, others would also benefit, and Make Give Live was born.
A social enterprise is an organisation that sits somewhere in the middle of charity and business. It trades to fund its charitable purpose, rather than relying on donations and grants, and 100% of profits go towards its purpose rather than any shareholders. We are no regular business that focusses on profit, performance and staff; we care about impact, fulfillment and family!
Make Give Live is focussed on easing isolation and improving wellbeing through the therapy of face-to-face connection and mindful making with purpose. People of all ages and backgrounds come together weekly in their area groups to enjoy each other's company, a cuppa, and to hand knit or crochet a collection of beanies that we sell using a 'Buy one - Give one' model.
For each beanie sold we give one to a homeless or elderly person in need with the help of our partners. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see our fabulous range of gorgeous beanies.
We have 5 groups in Auckland now, although a couple haven't started back up yet this year due to lack of resources, so with your help we'd love to get North Shore and Kumeu going again. Birkenhead, Central Auckland and Whangaparaoa groups are unstoppable! Even when we are low on wool they still meet up as the friendships run so deep now and they get so much out of their weekly meetups.
There are still a few places available in North Shore, Birkenhead and Kumeu groups, although they will fill fast as we like to keep them under 10 people to maintain the intimacy. We can only establish new groups at a rate that is sustainable which is likely to be one or two every couple of months. Please register your interest on our website if you'd like to be involved in a group or run a group in your area.
Research confims huge theraputic benefits from knitting and crochet. This combined with the intergenerational social benefits and a group effort for a shared purpose and vision is very powerful, and our vision is to be able to offer this magic to many more Kiwis around NZ, and, of course, gifting people in need a practical beanie not only warms their heads but their hearts too! 100% of profits go back into serving our purpose.

Thank you all so very much for your support! We are tracking well at $1440 and still have quite a bit more work to do to get our camapign out there.

Wow! A massive THANK YOU to everyone that has supported so far by pledging and sharing! The goal for these campaigns is generally 10% of the target in 48 hours and we got that in 4 hours 
:) In 48 hours we hit over 20% now almost at 25%! Anyway just numbers, it's the love and support that counts the most, we're in it for the long game #changinglives
