Washington Internship 2016

Project 2015-09-17 21:56:03 +1200

Hey my name is Batanai Mashingaidze and I’m heading into my third and final year of my Bachelor in Performing Arts (Acting) at Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School. I’ll be heading over to Washington DC and New York City for 7 weeks for our internships that goes towards a part of our third year acting training. I’ll will be working along side and learning from theatre director Timothy Douglas in the 2 projects he’ll be involved in.

Timothy Douglas is an New York based theater director, actor, writer and educator who currently serves as an Associate Artist for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park where he has staged 'The North Pool’ and his African- american take on Horton Foote’s 'The Trip to Bountiful’. Timothy was also the winner of the Jeff Award for Best New Work in 2013 for his take on Rajiv Joseph’s ‘The Lake Effect'. I am interested in working with someone who understands that talent and craft is in itself something unique and that being black isn’t my only point of difference as an artist and I believe and know from Timothy’s work that we both share this belief.

My ambition is to be an international actor, and my own personal and artistic passions lie in immersive, rigorous and non apologetic theatre; work that finds new ways to engage and challenge audience perspectives through form. Going to Washington DC to work with Timothy Douglas is an opportunity for me to practice my craft in order to expand and deepen my understanding of creating theatre that is both large in scale and of high performance quality.

It will also be feeding directly into my independent practice project for 2016, reworking my solo I created back in my first year. It is such an exciting opportunity for me but also super scary and very pricey! I need help with flights and accommodation. So please dontate what you can and share this to everyone you know and help me make this possible.

Thank you so much for your support!!!!!
